Saturday's Big East showdown between the St. John's Red Storm and the Providence Friars is another important one in the Big East. St. John's comes in as one of the conference's hottest teams, riding a double-digit winning streak and climbing the national polls, while Providence battles to find consistency in a middling season. The Friars will host the game in Providence, with the crowd eager to see if their squad can up the Red Storm after securing the lone victory in their series earlier this season. Here, I break down this contest and make my St. John's vs Providence prediction.
Pick: Providence +7.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 4/5
The two teams met earlier this season on January 3, with Providence earning a 77-71 victory over St. John's despite falling behind early. Providence closed strong and capitalized on St. John's shooting woes in that contest. While that result is meaningful, the trends since then have sharply diverged, with St. John's improving their consistency and climbing into national rankings, whereas the Friars have remained inconsistent. Historically, St. John's holds an edge in the all-time series, and recent meetings have leaned towards the Red Storm in most neutral or road contests.
Score Projection: St. John's 84 – Providence 80 ATS PRO
Win Probability: St. John's 70%, Providence 30% ATS PRO
Given the recent stretch of form, deeper roster depth, and stronger defense, St. John's appears poised to extend its winning run and secure a road victory over Providence on Valentine's Day. However, I am going to take the points with Providence on their home floor, after they proved earlier this season that they can go toe-to-toe with the Red Storm, even on the road.
