The Big Ten Conference turns its spotlight Saturday to a huge afternoon game featuring the Northwestern Wildcats visiting the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers have established themselves as one of the nation’s top teams with a 21-3 record after a strong start. Northwestern enters this contest in a slump sitting 10-15 overall and searching for a spark to arrest a four-game skid. Before this contest begins, you can find my Northwestern vs Nebraska prediction below.
Pick: Nebraska Cornhuskers -12.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 4/5
Nebraska has been one of the most consistent squads in the Big Ten this season with a 21-3 overall ledger driven by a well-rounded offensive attack and a stingy defense allowing 66.7 points per game. The Cornhuskers have benefited from multiple scoring threats led by Pryce Sandfort, who averages around 17 points per contest, while Rienk Mast and Braden Frager provide secondary scoring. Nebraska’s success from beyond the arc is a key differentiator as they average 11 made triples per game, making them a difficult cover for opponents that struggle to defend long range shots. Though Nebraska dropped an 80-77 overtime decision to Purdue, the competitive showing under pressure could serve them well heading into this key afternoon battle.
Northwestern is still searching for its identity in league play with only two conference wins thus far. Star shooter and leading scorer Nick Martinelli has been a bright spot, posting 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest, but scoring contributions are limited beyond him. The Wildcats have also struggled to score efficiently and often rely on Martinelli’s high usage. That apparoach served them well for a half against Michigan, before the Wildcats fell apart down the stretch against the second-ranked team in the country. Watching how Northwestern manages the pace and adjusts to Nebraska’s defensive schemes will be critical for any upset hopes.
In recent head-to-head play, Nebraska has dominated this pairing, including a 77-58 win earlier this season in Evanston. Historically, the Cornhuskers have enjoyed the upper hand in this series and look to continue that trend with an improved home record.
Score Projection: Northwestern 66 – Nebraska 82 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Northwestern 12% Nebraska 88% ATS PRO
Nebraska arrives at home as a clear favorite backed by more consistent offensive output and a deeper roster. Northwestern’s offensive struggles and recent losses make covering a large spread a challenging assignment on the road. Given Nebraska’s overall balance and Big Ten credentials, bettors should lean toward the Cornhuskers to secure a decisive victory while covering the spread as they look to break a run of three losses in four games.
