The second round of the NCAA Tournament will resume on Sunday with a matchup between a high-powered Purdue squad and a confident Miami team that just turned in one of the more impressive opening-round wins. With a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line, the Boilermakers are favored to win this Miami vs Purdue matchup, while Miami will try to pull off an upset to reach the second weekend.

Purdue enters this game after a dominant 104-71 victory in the opening round, showing off its elite offensive ceiling. The Boilermakers have been one of the most efficient teams in the country all season, powered by strong guard play and perimeter shooting. Their ability to control tempo and create high-quality looks makes them a tough matchup for any opponent.
Miami, meanwhile, advanced with an 80-66 win over Missouri, fueled by strong rebounding and interior scoring. The Hurricanes controlled the glass and capitalized on second-chance opportunities, which will again be critical against a bigger Purdue front line. Miami has shown it can rise to the occasion, but consistency against top-tier competition has been mixed.
Purdue Boilermakers
Miami Hurricanes
Stat | Miami | Purdue |
|---|---|---|
Points per game | 81.9 | 82.3 |
Points allowed per game | 71.0 | 70.2 |
Field Goal % | 50% | 50% |
Rebounds per game | 37.6 | 35.6 |
Assists per game | 16.2 | 20.0 |
Purdue’s offensive efficiency and depth give it a clear edge in this matchup. The Boilermakers excel in ball movement and shot selection, which should allow them to break down Miami’s defense over the course of the game. While Miami has shown it can compete physically and control the boards, sustaining that effort against a team with Purdue’s spacing and guard play is a difficult task. I recommend laying the points with the Boilermakers, as favorites continue to roll in the second round of this tournament.
