The stage is set for a compelling Missouri Valley Conference matchup on Sunday as the Drake Bulldogs visit the Northern Iowa Panthers men's basketball at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. With records showing Drake at 12-15 overall and 6-10 in MVC play and Northern Iowa at 16-10 with an 8-7 conference record, this game has implications for conference positioning as conference tournament time approaches. Here, I break down this contest and you can find my Drake vs Northern Iowa prediction below.
Pick: Northern Iowa -9.5 ATS PRO

Drake outpaces Northern Iowa in scoring but also concedes significantly more points, illustrating a defensive vulnerability that they will have to overcome. Northern Iowa’s strength lies in limiting opponents, as they allow just over 61 points per game. The free-throw percentage and assists figures indicate a slight edge in execution and ball movement for the Panthers. Drake’s rebounding edge could be an area of potential advantage, but Northern Iowa’s capacity to control the interior defensively limits second-chance opportunities.
Score Projection: Northern Iowa 77 – Drake 64 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Northern Iowa 73%, Drake 27% ATS PRO
Sunday’s game should go in favor of Northern Iowa given their home court advantage and a clear defensive edge. Drake’s scoring ability keeps them competitive in spurts, but their inability to consistently get stops has been costly throughout conference play. Northern Iowa’s steadiness on both ends, stronger free-throw shooting, and more reliable half-court offense suggest they should control the pace and build separation as the game progresses. I will lay the points with UNI in this big MVC matchup.
