- Vernon Adams suffered a knee injury last week for the Lions, which will drastically impact their ability to score if he does not play (which he shoudn’t).
- Edmonton is averaging just 15 points per game, and they certainly will not carry this game over the total.
On Saturday night, the BC Lions will face the Edmonton Elks, in a game that would normally be a huge mismatch. But an injury to BC quarterback Vernon Adams has created a little intrigue in a game that would normally have a lopsided point spread. Here, we make our CFL betting picks for this matchup between these two teams on opposite ends of the West Division standings.
Lions vs Elks Betting Pick
Lions vs Elks Under 43.5
Why Bet on the Under:
✅ The Lions would be insane to play Vernon Adams in this game, after he sustained a knee injury against the Roughriders last week. BC’s offense really struggled without him, and that should continue here.
✅ The Elks offense has really struggled this year, averaging just 15 points per game on the year.
This game will be played at Commonwealth Stadium at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
BC Lions
The BC Lions have been the class of the West Division in the CFL so far this season, entering this week with a 5-1 record. But in last week’s win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, they suffered a major injury, as Vernon Adams suffered a knee injury. While Adams’ knee is considered to be structurally sound, and not a long-term concern, he could miss this game as the Lions look toward the rest of what could be a championship season.
If Adams does not play, the question for the Lions will be whether they can conjure up enough offense to win this game against the lowly Elks. They scored 19 points against the Riders last week, which was more than enough against another struggling team. But another full game without Adams could be too much for the Lions to overcome.
Edmonton Elks
The Edmonton Elks have had a horrible start to the 2023 CFL season, going 0-7 so far. They have yet to have a bye week, and are playing for the eighth straight week here. However, the absence of Adams for the Lions could throw the Elks a lifeline, as they look to get into the win column for the first time in their 2023 campaign.
Edmonton needs to be better on both sides of the ball if they want to win this or any other game. They are being outscored by 11 points per game on average this season, and they are only scoring 15 points per game on the year. But their defense could get a real lift against a backup quarterback for BC, so long as Adams does not take the field.
