The women’s cross-country skiing sprint classic at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano–Cortina is a chance for some of the best cross-country skiers in the world to get their hands on Olympic gold. With a field stacked with sprint specialists and distance stars alike, this event has the potential for fireworks from qualifiers through to the final. Before the action begins in Italy, you can keep reading to find my Olympic women's sprint classic predictions here.
Below is a snapshot of the current outright winner odds for the women’s sprint classic at the Olympics:
This Olympic sprint classic arrives at a fascinating point in the season. Sweden has demonstrated exceptional depth in classic sprint races this winter, delivering a clean sweep in a recent World Cup classic sprint in Trondheim with Johanna Hagström, Emma Ribom, and Linn Svahn finishing first through third. That level of dominance from a single nation in a head-to-head event is rare, making Sweden the team to beat coming into Tesero. Beyond that specific race, Swedish athletes have consistently posted fast qualifying times and shown tactical savvy in heat racing, which is essential for Olympic sprint success.
Jonna Sundling stands out among the Swedes as the consensus top favorite. Her early opening odds reflect both her historical strength in the event and her form this season. Sundling has been a dominant presence in classic sprint racing over successive seasons and is renowned for her ability to control heats from the front while timing her efforts to perfection.
Linn Svahn, another Swedish star, returns from injury and has already notched significant wins this season. Though she has battled health setbacks, her sprinting speed and powerful closing kick are feared by competitors. If she arrives at the starting line fully fit and confident, she immediately becomes a threat for the Olympic title.
Norway’s Kristine Stavaas Skistad also deserves respect in this field. Norway traditionally excels in all cross-country disciplines, and Skistad has carved out a reputation as one of the most consistent performers across sprint and distance races. Her mix of strength and patience could pay dividends, particularly if qualification heats prove challenging for others.
It’s worth watching the emerging impact of Jasmi Joensuu from Finland. Joensuu clinched her first individual World Cup sprint classic win on the Olympic course in Val di Fiemme early this season. That result signals she can deliver against top competition, even if she is longer odds than some of the marquee Swedish names.
Pick: Jonna Sundling ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Jonna Sundling stands out for several reasons. She has had plenty of individual success in events like this one at previous stops this year. Sweden’s systematic excellence in sprint races this season provides further support for her prospects. Teammates Linn Svahn, Maja Dahlqvist, and Johanna Hagström have all shown they can compete at the front, which means Sweden as a whole has the tactical flexibility to control early heats and pacing scenarios. I'll go with the top Swede to get the gold here, though any of the Swedish competitors could get the job done.
