The women’s alpine skiing giant slalom event at the 2026 Winter Olympics is stacked with veteran champions looking to get the better of their competition on the slopes in Italy. Riders will descend the challenging Milan-Cortina terrain under Olympic pressure, with past Olympic experience playing a significant role. Here, I break down this competition and make my women's giant slalom prediction.
Here are the latest available odds for the women’s giant slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics:
Austrian Julia Scheib arrives in strong form and is recognized as the favorite for the giant slalom at Milan-Cortina. She has consistently dominated the 2025-26 World Cup giant slalom circuit, with multiple victories and nearly flawless results leading into the Olympics. Her presence at the top of the standings suggests she may be the skier most ready to seize Olympic gold.
Defending Olympic champion Sara Hector of Sweden brings valuable Games experience. Although her season has been solid, including podium finishes, she has not been as dominant as Scheib. Still, her consistency and previous Olympic success mean she should not be overlooked.
Swiss standout Camille Rast has been a regular podium contender all season. Her steady performance places her firmly among the medal threats, and she has shown in recent World Cup events that she can ski with the front-runners.
Italy’s Federica Brignone enters as a veteran racer who claimed Olympic gold in the super-G just days prior and worked her way back from a significant injury. While her primary event has traditionally been the giant slalom and super-G, her recent comeback adds intrigue to this event.
American star Mikaela Shiffrin’s giant slalom campaign has sparked much discussion. After an injury in 2024 and a mixed set of results this season, her GS results have shown she is competitive but not a clear favorite. Nonetheless, her experience, past Olympic success, including GS gold in 2018, and overall technical gifts keep her in the conversation.
New Zealand’s Alice Robinson has also posted big results this season, including a World Cup giant slalom victory. Her combination of speed and precision provides potential for a breakthrough performance on the Olympic stage.
Pick: Julia Scheib ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Scheib’s performances in giant slalom this season transform her from a promising World Cup competitor into a clear Olympic favorite. With four World Cup wins and consistent scoring in nearly every GS race she has started this season, her form is both timely and reassuring for bettors. Whereas others like Shiffrin and Brignone carry strong reputations and historical success, their recent giant slalom results have been less consistent. I'll take the favorite to get the win in this event based on what we've seen in the giant slalom lately.
