Spain entered the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the tournament favorites, but a scoreless draw against Cape Verde in their opening match has immediately raised the pressure level. Saudi Arabia also opened with a draw, earning a valuable 1-1 result against Uruguay to keep their knockout-round hopes firmly intact. With all four teams in Group H sitting on one point, Sunday’s meeting in Atlanta carries major significance for both sides.
Spain controlled possession for long stretches against Cape Verde but lacked quality in the final third. That performance was disappointing, yet it does little to change the broader outlook for a squad that remains one of the deepest and most talented in the competition. Luis de la Fuente's side generated pressure throughout the opener and should benefit from a more aggressive approach here as they look to avoid putting themselves in a difficult position before the final group match.
Saudi Arabia deserves credit for its disciplined display against Uruguay. Georgios Donis has his team organized defensively, and the Green Falcons showed they can frustrate stronger opponents. However, asking them to contain Spain for 90 minutes after Spain's disappointing opener is a much taller task. Saudi Arabia will likely spend long stretches defending in a compact shape, but repeated pressure often leads to mistakes, especially against elite technical teams.
Parlay Odds: +168
The foundation of this parlay is Spain's expected response after failing to score against Cape Verde. Spain dominated possession and territory in that match and now faces a Saudi Arabia side that is likely to sit deep and defend for extended stretches. If Spain finds an early breakthrough, the match could open up for them considerably.
Oyarzabal remains one of Spain's most reliable finishers and should be heavily involved around the penalty area. Pairing his scoring potential with a Spanish clean sheet and a multi-goal victory creates a correlated wager that aligns with the projected game script. Saudi Arabia managed one goal against Uruguay, but creating chances against Spain's defense is a much more difficult assignment.
Spain's opening draw was one of the biggest surprises of the first week of the tournament. Despite dominating possession and creating sustained pressure, La Roja failed to find a breakthrough. The result leaves them with little margin for error, especially with qualification still very much undecided in Group H.
The good news for Spain is that their performance was far better than the scoreline suggests. The midfield controlled the match, the defense rarely faced danger, and the team spent most of the contest in attacking areas. The missing ingredient was finishing. That issue is often easier to correct than structural problems elsewhere on the pitch.
There is also optimism that key attacking players can provide a greater spark in this matchup. Spain's attack features significantly more creativity and pace than what Saudi Arabia saw against Uruguay. If Spain can stretch the Saudi defensive block and create more one-on-one situations in wide areas, scoring opportunities should arrive consistently.
Saudi Arabia enters this match with confidence after earning a point against Uruguay. Salem Al-Dawsari remains the team's most dangerous attacking threat, while goalkeeper Mohammed Alowais could once again be asked to make several important saves. The Saudis will likely embrace a defensive approach, attempt to stay compact, and hope to capitalize on a counterattack or set-piece opportunity.
While that strategy worked reasonably well against Uruguay, Spain presents a different challenge. The European champions excel at controlling tempo and forcing opponents into prolonged defensive sequences. Over the course of 90 minutes, that style tends to generate enough chances to eventually break through.
Expect Saudi Arabia to keep the match competitive early, but Spain's quality should gradually take over. A determined response after the Cape Verde draw, combined with a clear talent advantage across the field, points toward a comfortable Spanish victory. The most likely outcome is a clean sheet for Spain and a multi-goal win that puts them back on track for advancement.
