Matchday 2 | Group E | June 20, 2026 | Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City | 8 PM ET
Ecuador and Curaçao meet in Kansas City on June 20 with very different ambitions. The pressure is on Ecuador after they were beaten 1-0 by Ivory Coast in Philadelphia on Matchday 1, and the South Americans will be hoping they can resurrect their World Cup with a convincing win against Curaçao.
The Blue Wave, meanwhile, were hammered 7-1 by Germany in one of the most one-sided matches of the tournament so far. Dick Advocaat's charges will be hoping for a rebound in defensive performance against an Ecuadorian attack that sputtered against the Ivorians, but realistically will just be hoping to keep the scoreline close.
Pick: Over 3.5 Goals +133
Confidence: 3 out of 5
Ecuador enter this Group E match as overwhelming favorites, but the moneyline is too short to be useful. The market has Ecuador around -809, with the draw near +1011 and Curaçao around +2400. That makes the result expectation clear, but it also pushes bettors toward the spread and goal markets.
The advanced metrics point in the same direction. Ecuador’s defeat to Ivory Coast was frustrating rather than alarming, with La Tri creating enough territory and pressure to feel they deserved more from the game. Curaçao’s opener was different. They conceded 7 goals to Germany, faced 26 shots, and produced only 0.4 xG themselves. That is the profile of a team that may struggle to slow a favorite once the first goal arrives.
The original handicap angle made sense at around -120, but that number is no longer the market. Ecuador -1.5 is now much shorter at around -245, while Ecuador -2.5 is available at plus money. The problem with -2.5 is that the 3-1 projection would not cover it. That makes Over 3.5 Goals at +133 the cleaner route into the same match script.
Ecuador should have the midfield edge through Moises Caicedo and the better penalty-box threat through Enner Valencia. Curaçao do have enough attacking quality to find a consolation, especially if Ecuador commit bodies forward, but their defensive shape must improve sharply after the Germany defeat. A 3-1 Ecuador win is the most balanced projection.
The main risk to the over is Ecuador’s finishing. They have the players to dominate territory, but they have not always been ruthless in the final third. That is why this is not a 4 out of 5 confidence play. Still, the price is far more attractive than laying a heavy Ecuador moneyline or taking a short handicap.
Clean build: Ecuador to win + Over 3.5 Goals. This follows the main projection, with Ecuador winning through superior midfield control and the match opening up enough to reach 4 total goals. Check the live parlay price before placing.
Aggressive build: Ecuador to win + Valencia anytime scorer + Over 3.5 Goals. This adds Ecuador’s main finisher to the same 3-1 match script. It is a higher-risk build, but it lines up with the way La Tri are expected to create chances.
Ecuador projected XI (3-4-3): Galindez; Franco, Ordonez, Pacho; Yeboah, Caicedo, Vite, Hincapie; Plata, Valencia, Minda
Curaçao projected XI (4-2-3-1): Room; Comenencia, Gaari, Obispo, Floranus; Leandro Bacuna, Juninho Bacuna; Antonisse, Hooi, Gorre; Kastaneer
Lineups are projected and subject to late changes.
Score Projection: Ecuador 3 - Curaçao 1
Win Probability: Ecuador 85%, Curaçao 6%, Draw 9%
Ecuador have the stronger squad, the midfield control, and the clearer tournament urgency. Curaçao’s 7-1 defeat to Germany showed how quickly they can unravel against sustained pressure, and Ecuador should have enough territory and set-piece volume to create multiple goals.
The pick is Over 3.5 Goals at +133. Ecuador -1.5 made sense at the original price, but at around -245 it no longer offers the same value. The total gives a better payout path into an Ecuador-dominant game while still allowing for a Curaçao consolation.
