Genoa vs Frosinone Prediction & Preview: Hosts Look to Avoid 4th Straight Defeat

Genoa welcome Frosinone to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday with pressure on the hosts early in the Serie A season. Daniele De Rossi’s side have lost all three league matches and sit 19th, while newly promoted Frosinone have taken 6 points from their opening three games and enter the weekend in seventh. Yet the gap in early results has helped create an intriguing prediction market price on the home side.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“Frosinone’s excellent finishing has made their early record look stronger than their attacking production when looking at advanced metrics, while Genoa’s difficult opening schedule and defeat to Como have pushed their price too far down.”
The Market Tentatively Favors Genoa
Polymarket currently prices Genoa at 45¢ to win in 90 minutes, with the draw at 30¢ and Frosinone at 27¢. The market is therefore giving Genoa just a 45% implied probability despite home advantage against a newly promoted opponent. The total goals market is close to balanced, with over 2.5 at 51¢ and under 2.5 at 50¢.
A 3% Edge On Genoa
My projection puts Genoa at 48%, producing a 3% edge at the current 45¢ price. A major reason is Frosinone’s unusually efficient start in front of goal. Antonio Raimondo has already scored 4 Serie A goals from roughly 1.6 expected goals. That level of finishing can happen over three matches, but it is difficult to sustain.

There is no disguising Genoa’s start. They opened with a 2-0 home defeat to Napoli, lost 1-0 at Lazio, and were then beaten 4-1 by Como. That leaves De Rossi’s team with just 1 goal scored and 7 conceded through three league matches. Milutin Osmajic scored their lone Serie A goal so far against Como. Making a Genoa vs Frosinone prediction on the hosts requires overlooking that poor start.
Frosinone have taken the opposite route. Massimiliano Alvini’s team began with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Juventus before stunning Fiorentina 3-0 and beating Venezia 3-2. They have scored 6 times and conceded 3, with Raimondo responsible for 4 of those goals.
Genoa are expected to continue with a 3-5-2 system, and De Rossi has been leaning toward Lorenzo Colombo and Osmajic together in attack. Stephan El Shaarawy is expected to begin among the substitutes, while Junior Traoré could also provide an option during the match.
The Colombo and Osmajic partnership needs to give Genoa a clearer presence around the penalty area. Colombo has created 4 chances this season, while Osmajic has supplied their only league goal. Genoa cannot afford another match where promising possession produces too few threatening opportunities.
Raimondo is the obvious danger for Genoa. His 4 goals through three matches lead Frosinone, and he has converted those opportunities from an expected-goals figure around 1.6. Giacomo Calò has also played an important role, leading the club with 11 chances created while contributing an assist.
Genoa’s three-man defensive line must stop Frosinone from finding Raimondo quickly after turnovers. Frosinone have shown they can punish mistakes without needing long spells of control, and Genoa gave Como too much room between the defensive and midfield lines in their 4-1 defeat.
The first goal will be huge in this match. Genoa have played from behind too often during their 0-0-3 start, while Frosinone have already demonstrated that they are comfortable protecting an advantage and attacking the space that appears afterward.
This is also a test of whether Frosinone’s finishing remains unusually efficient. Their results deserve respect, but Raimondo scoring 4 times from around 1.6 expected goals is a major early-season overperformance. Genoa have the home setting, and enough attacking options to create a better performance than their first three results indicate.
At 45¢, Genoa do not need to be a dominant favorite to offer value. A 48% model probability gives the home side sufficient separation from the current market price to make Genoa my preferred position, with 47¢ the highest playable entry before most of that advantage disappears.
