Crystal Palace vs Ipswich Town Prediction: Goals Could Be Hard to Come By

Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday with both clubs sitting on 3 points after their opening 3 Premier League matches. Palace enter with back-to-back wins across all competitions after beating Fulham 3-2 and Middlesbrough 3-0, while Ipswich have followed their opening victory over Sunderland with defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“Recent high-scoring results are pushing the market toward another open game, but Palace enter without 2 of their most important attacking players, and Ipswich failed to score against Liverpool in their latest match.”
Previous Results Skewing Total
Polymarket currently prices Under 2.5 goals at 47¢, compared with 54¢ for Over 2.5. That makes the market's view clear. Traders expect another relatively open game after Palace's first 3 league matches produced 12 total goals and Ipswich's produced the same number. Both clubs have scored 4 and conceded 8 through 3 league fixtures.
Strength Of Opponent Matters
Palace have already faced Manchester City, while Ipswich have played Manchester United and Liverpool. Palace are also expected to be without Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaïla Sarr, removing established attacking quality from Pierre Sage's side. My projection puts Under 2.5 at 51%, creating a 4% edge over the current 47¢ implied probability. I would still play the prediction up to 50¢, but the value disappears beyond that level.

Palace and Ipswich have identical records of 1 win and 2 defeats through 3 league games, with both scoring 4 goals and conceding 8. This is a useful opportunity for either club to establish some separation from the lower positions before the summer ends.
Palace should arrive with greater confidence. Their 3-2 comeback at Fulham gave Sage his first Premier League victory before a rotated side beat Middlesbrough 3-0 in the EFL Cup. Jørgen Strand Larsen scored twice in that cup win and now has a strong case to lead the attack against Ipswich.
The main question when making a Crystal Palace vs Ipswich prediction is whether Palace can maintain their recent scoring without Mateta and Sarr. Both are expected to miss the game through injury, while Chadi Riad is also unavailable. Cheick Doucouré has returned to the squad following his long absence, although illness kept him out of the midweek cup game.
Sage has generally used a back 3 with attacking width provided from the wing-back positions. That became particularly important at Fulham, where Tyrick Mitchell scored twice, and Ben Chilwell supplied the winner. Mitchell has scored twice from only 5 attempts this season, while Daichi Kamada and Adam Wharton have each created 4 chances.
Ipswich opened with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland but have since conceded 7 goals across losses to Manchester United and Liverpool. Their latest 2-0 defeat was less chaotic than the 5-2 result at Old Trafford, but they struggled to convert their opportunities and never recovered after conceding twice inside the opening 9 minutes.
Julio Enciso has been one of Ipswich's most active attacking players with 12 shots, but Gary O'Neil's side may be without Jaden Philogene and Azor Matusiwa, while Jack Taylor is also expected to miss out. Ipswich have primarily lined up in a 4-2-3-1, which should give Palace's wing-backs opportunities to push forward but could also create space for Ipswich on the break.
The opening phase could determine whether this becomes another high-scoring game or a much tighter contest. Ipswich conceded twice in the first 9 minutes against Liverpool, so O'Neil should place greater value on defensive control early. Palace also have little reason to force the pace with Mateta and Sarr missing.
Palace have won the last 5 meetings between these clubs, including a 1-0 victory at Selhurst Park in their most recent encounter. With Palace likely to control more territory and Ipswich having reason to protect themselves after consecutive defeats, a controlled home performance looks more likely than another end-to-end contest. Under 2.5 goals at 47¢ offers enough room against my 51% projection to make it my preferred position.
