Como enter their first Champions League game with strong momentum after making an impressie start to the season. Cesc Fàbregas’ side finished fourth in Serie A last season and have taken seven points from their opening three league matches, including impressive away wins at Napoli and Genoa.
Leipzig provide a significant step up in European experience, but their start has been less convincing. A 3-1 defeat at Werder Bremen exposed some of the defensive problems Como will look to attack at the Sinigaglia in what is sure to be a fervent atmosphere beside the lake in northern Italy.
This is the central tactical battle. Como want to build through midfield and draw opponents forward before attacking the space that appears behind them. Leipzig are naturally aggressive without the ball, so their press could either disrupt Como’s buildup or give the hosts exactly the openings they want.
Nico Paz is particularly important here. If Como can play through Leipzig’s first line, Paz should find opportunities between midfield and defense, where he can turn possession into chances for Assane Diao and the runners around him.
Backing Como does not mean expecting a comfortable night.
