The Washington Capitals close out their road trip with a clash against the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena. Both teams enter this matchup with explosive offenses that are averaging over three goals per game. But this game will come down to which defense can do the best job of playing defense. Here, I break down this Eastern Conference matchup and make my Capitals vs Panthers prediction for Monday night.

The Capitals recently snapped a three-game slide with a 4-3 overtime win against the New Jersey Devils, paced by a strong showing from goaltender Logan Thompson, who stopped 35 shots in that contest. Washington had struggled earlier in the week, suffering a 7-3 loss to the New York Rangers, an outing that underscored some defensive issues. Overall, the Capitals have been inconsistent, posting just two wins in their last eight games.
Meanwhile, the Panthers have been steadier, entering this matchup with a three victories in their last five games and appearing to find better balance on offense and defense over the last ten outings. Florida’s ability to grind out results, even in tight games, has been impressive during their turnaround after a slow start this season.
Florida’s crease is occupied by Sergei Bobrovsky, who has logged a 16-8-1 record with a sub-2.80 goals-against average and a save percentage around .888. Backup Daniil Tarasov has also contributed with respectable numbers, albeit in limited action. For Washington, Logan Thompson’s performances have swung dramatically in recent starts, from multi-goal concessions to a rebound effort against the Devils. He has been excellent for the most part this season and will try to make an impact here as well.
On offense, the Panthers receive contributions from Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart, and Brad Marchand, all of whom carry respectable goal totals this season and present intriguing anytime scorer opportunities. Marchand’s scoring touch and veteran presence make him a key player in Florida’s attack. For Washington, Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson remain central to the offense. Both are among the team’s leaders in goals and points and will be huge factors here as well.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Sam Reinhart | To Score |
Brad Marchand | To Score |
Alex Ovechkin | To Score |
I will take the Florida Panthers to win on home ice in this contest. The Caps did get a win in their last game, but that was by the skin of their teeth and Washington has been anything but impressive of late. I'll back the Panthers to send Washington back into the loss column in this contest from Florida.
