The Washington Capitals (6-3-0) will look to keep their perfect road record as they face the Dallas Stars (5-3-1) at American Airlines Center on Tuesday night. Both teams have winning records early in the year and will try to make a statement in what could end up being a preview of this year's Stanley Cup Final. Before the puck drops in Dallas, continue reading to get my Capitals vs Stars prediction for tonight's game.
The Capitals have been impressive on the road, starting the season with a perfect 3-0-0 record away from home. Their recent 5-1 road victory over the Blue Jackets highlighted their offensive depth and ability to defend in a hostile environment. The Stars come into this game on a two-game winning streak and they will try to move up in the Central Division standings with a third straight win tonight.
Logan Thompson has been a revelation for the Capitals. He enters tonight with a 5-1-0 record with a 1.50 GAA and .938 SV%. His stellar performances in net have been a cornerstone of Washington's success. Jake Oettinger has been solid for the Stars, but his 2.99 GAA indicates room for improvement. The Capitals' offensive firepower may test Oettinger more than he has been accustomed to this season.
Washington's Tom Wilson leads the team with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists), while Dylan Strome has contributed 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists). The Stars will rely on Wyatt Johnston, who leads the team with six goals. They will also need production from Mikko Rantanen, who has 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists), to generate offense.
Player | Stat |
|---|---|
Tom Wilson | Over 0.5 Goals |
Dylan Strome | Over 0.5 Assists |
Logan Thompson | Under 2.5 Goals Allowed |
The Capitals' strong road form and potent offense give them a slight edge in this matchup. While the Stars have home-ice advantage, they are playing sub-.500 hockey at home early in the season. I expect the Caps to exploit that and for Washington get a statement win in Texas on Tuesday night.
