The Washington Capitals will travel to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday in an Eastern Conference showdown. Washington is holding a 5-2-0 record and Columbus at an even 3-3-0. The Capitals arrive as marginal favorites in a game where a tight margin is expected in Ohio. Before the puck drops in Columbus, continue reading to get my Capitals vs Blue Jackets prediction.
Washington enters the weekend with strong momentum. They are off to a 5-2-0 start and are hitting the road after a four-game homestand. Their offense has been clicking while the team's defense is holding opponents to just 1.86 goals per game.
Columbus comes in at 3-3-0 but has reason for optimism. The Blue Jackets have an energetic young core and are playing at home where they will try to win a third game in a row. Columbus is just 1-2 at home on the year and will try to get back to .500 with a win on home ice here.
Washington’s Logan Thompson has been terrific so far this season. He is 4-1 on the season and has a 1.60 GAA. Columbus has two goaltenders who have GAAs under 3.00 for the season and they need some help from their offense in order to get a win here to get back above .500.
Washington: Tom Wilson leads the team with four goals and six assists through seven games, Dylan Strome has two goals and seven assists, and Aliaksei Protas has also contributed four goals and four assists.
Columbus: Kirill Marchenko leads with five goals and seven points early on. Boone Jenner has four assists. Both of them will need to make an impact for the Jackets to win here.

Dylan Strome (WAS) | Over 0.5 Assists |
Kirill Marchenko (CBJ) | Over 0.5 Goals |

Score Projection: Capitals 3, Blue Jackets 2
Win Probability: Capitals 54%, Blue Jackets 46%
This should be a close game in Columbus on Friday night. I think that the Caps will get the win on the road here. Washington is unbeaten on the road for the year and they should keep it that way in this contest. Columbus' struggles generating offense should continue and Washington will get their third win in a row on the road to open the year.
