The St. Louis Blues head north to face the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night in a Central Division meeting that should be competitive despite both clubs sitting below the playoff line. Each team remains within reach of a late push to reach the playoffs in the Western Conference, which adds a sense of urgency to this contest at Canada Life Centre. Winnipeg has been slightly more productive offensively this season, while St. Louis arrives with the better recent stretch of results. Before the puck drops in this matchup, continue reading for my Blues vs Jets prediction.
St. Louis enters this contest with solid results over its past five outings. The Blues have gone 4-0-1 during that stretch, including road victories against Carolina, Anaheim, and San Jose. Their most recent game ended in a 3-2 overtime win over the Oilers. Winnipeg’s last five games show a bit more inconsistency. The Jets are 3-2 in that span with wins over Vancouver, Tampa Bay, and Colorado, but losses to Anaheim and the Rangers highlight some defensive issues that have appeared at times during the season.
Goaltending could play a central role in determining the outcome. Winnipeg is expected to lean on Connor Hellebuyck, who has posted a save percentage around .900 with a goals against average near 2.80 this season. When Hellebuyck is sharp, the Jets often control the flow of play, especially on home ice, where he has delivered several strong performances.
St. Louis counters with Joel Hofer, who has been productive during recent weeks. Hofer owns a goals against average of 2.70 and has recorded multiple shutouts this season, including a 4-0 win over Anaheim during the Blues’ latest road trip. In his most recent start, he stopped 45 shots in an overtime defeat, showing he can handle a heavy workload.
The Jets’ offense continues to run through Mark Scheifele. The center leads the club with 30 goals and 81 points while also pacing the team in assists with 51. Kyle Connor remains another major threat after recording 30 goals this season and recently adding points in several recent games.
For St. Louis, Robert Thomas leads the roster with 44 points on 16 goals and 28 assists. His availability has been monitored after dealing with a minor injury but he is expected to remain a factor in the lineup. Pavel Buchnevich has also produced steadily with 38 points, including 14 goals, while Jordan Kyrou adds scoring depth on the wing.
The Blues have played well recently, but their season-long road struggles remain a concern for bettors. Winnipeg also benefits from stronger special teams numbers and the presence of Hellebuyck in net. If he performs near his season average, the Jets should have the edge in a relatively low-scoring game. Expect a competitive pace with both teams generating chances, though Winnipeg’s top line and home environment give them the slight advantage needed to secure the win.
