In a Sunday night NHL showdown, the St. Louis Blues visit the Minnesota Wild at the Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul for a Central Division clash that has implications for both teams' confidence. Minnesota is heavily favored on home ice against a Blues squad struggling to find consistency. Before the puck drops in this matchup from Minnesota, you can continue reading to find my Blues vs Wild prediction on the ice.
Pick: Minnesota Wild -1.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Recent Form
The Wild enter this game after their six-game winning streak came to an end in a 5-2 loss to the Utah Mammoth on Friday night. Despite that defeat, Minnesota still holds a strong superiority in the standings with more wins and consistent production from its top forwards. Matt Boldy continued his impressive point streak, extending it to nine games and adding production in the recent loss, while Kirill Kaprizov has also been a central offensive force.
On the other side, the Blues have been inconsistent, losing nine of their last 11 games, including a 3-1 setback to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. However, they did show offensive life in a 5-1 win over the Seattle Kraken with Dylan Holloway scoring a hat trick in that contest, signaling that they can still generate offense in bursts.
Goaltending
Minnesota’s goaltending has been solid this season, with Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt both contributing quality starts when called upon, though Gustavsson is currently listed as day-to-day with an illness that could impact his availability. The Wild’s defensive structure tends to limit high-danger chances, lending confidence to their goaltending tandem despite recent struggles.
The Blues have seen Jordan Binnington get the nod between the pipes in recent outings. Binnington has been serviceable but hasn’t received much goal support from his team’s forwards, and he’ll need a strong performance to keep St. Louis in contention against high-end Wild scoring threats.
Key Skaters
Minnesota boasts multiple offensive weapons, with Boldy and Kaprizov leading the charge. Boldy’s goal scoring and Kaprizov’s playmaking have been driving forces for the Wild’s attack this season. For St. Louis, Holloway’s recent breakout is a storyline to monitor, and Pavel Buchnevich remains one of the few consistent scoring options for the Blues.
Score Projection: Blues 2 – Wild 4 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Blues 35%, Wild 65% ATS PRO
The Wild’s home strength and recent offensive prowess give them a clear edge, despite the end of their recent winning streak. The Blues have shown flashes, particularly in their win over the Kraken, but their inconsistency and recent frequency of losses make it difficult to back them on the road. Given Minnesota’s depth, scoring balance and home environment, I am backing the Wild to cover the puckline as a favorite.
