Pittsburgh Penguins vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction: The House vs. The Flightless Birds

The Pittsburgh Penguins travel to T-Mobile Arena dealing with significant lineup challenges as they continue their push in the Metropolitan Division playoff race. With captain Sidney Crosby still sidelined due to a lower-body injury suffered during the Olympic tournament and Evgeni Malkin serving a suspension, Pittsburgh has leaned heavily on veterans like Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and trade-deadline addition Anthony Mantha to generate offense. Despite the absences, Pittsburgh still boasts elite puck-moving defensemen in Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang, both capable of driving offense from the blue line and creating scoring opportunities in transition. The Vegas Golden Knights remain one of the most difficult teams to beat at home. With Jack Eichel and Mark Stone leading the offense, Vegas continues to combine physicality with offensive skill. The Golden Knights’ defensive core led by Shea Theodore and Noah Hanifin has also helped maintain strong possession numbers throughout the season. Pick: Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-130) ATS PRO Confidence: ★★★★☆
Pittsburgh’s offense has been forced to adapt without two of its biggest stars. The Penguins have relied on strong play from Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell to generate scoring chances, while Erik Karlsson remains one of the NHL’s most productive offensive defensemen. Vegas continues to thrive on puck possession and depth scoring. Jack Eichel leads the team in offensive production and has developed strong chemistry with Mark Stone and Ivan Barbashev. When the Golden Knights establish their forecheck, they can control the tempo of the game for extended stretches. The absence of Mark Stone will be noticed for sure.
With both Crosby and Malkin unavailable, Pittsburgh must rely heavily on its depth forwards and offensive defensemen. Players like Rust, Rakell, and Anthony Mantha will need to step up offensively if the Penguins hope to keep pace with Vegas.
The Golden Knights have been dominant at T-Mobile Arena in recent seasons. Their ability to control possession and generate sustained offensive zone pressure makes them extremely difficult to beat on home ice.
Pittsburgh’s injuries and suspension issues make this a difficult matchup against one of the league’s most balanced teams. While the Penguins’ defense can still generate offense, Vegas’ depth and home-ice advantage give them the edge. If Mark Stone returns to this game (unlikely), Vegas are even bigger favorites. With Eichel leading the offense and the Golden Knights’ structured defensive system limiting high-danger chances, the best value in this matchup sits with the Golden Knights on the moneyline.
