Key Storylines
- Florida State earned the No. 8 seed in the ACC Tournament after a strong finish, winning 10 of its final 13 games of the regular season. They are riding momentum and will hope to carry that into this tournament opener against the Golden Bears.
- Cal finished with a 21‑10 record and a .500 mark in conference play, but inconsistent late‑season play leaves questions about their offensive rhythm, especially after a loss at Wake Forest. The Golden Bears are on the NCAA Tournament bubble and have to win this game to remain in tournament consideration.
- Florida State holds a 1‑0 head‑to‑head advantage this season, having defeated Cal by a narrow two‑point margin earlier in Tallahassee.
Key Players
Florida State Seminoles
- Chauncey Wiggins provides explosive scoring; he poured in a career‑high 31 points in the regular season finale, showcasing his ability to take over offensively and stretch defenses.

- Lajae Jones adds toughness and rebounding, chipping in key boards and inside scoring that can determine the pace of this game.
California Golden Bears
- Justin Pippen leads the Cal offense with consistent scoring and perimeter shooting. He dropped 19 points in their prior meeting with Florida State.
- Dai Dai Ames provides athleticism and efficient slashing play, regularly contributing in double figures and helping create offense.
- Chris Bell offers reliable shooting and free‑throw accuracy, and his perimeter presence keeps defenses honest for the Bears.

Final Thoughts
Cal needs this game to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive. But there is a reason that Cal is on the bubble in the first place, as they just aren't a great basketball team. I lean toward Florida State to get the job done here, as the Golden Bears should see their NCAA Tournament hopes fall just short with a loss in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
