The New York Rangers travel to UBS Arena on Saturday to face the New York Islanders in a Metropolitan Division rivalry game. The Islanders hold a slim edge in the standings heading into this matchup, with a record of 20-13-4 compared to the Rangers at 19-16-4. Both teams are seeking consistency as the season approaches its midpoint. Before the puck drops on Long Island, you can continue reading to find my Rangers vs Islanders prediction below.

The Islanders closed their pre-holiday schedule with a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, with Adam Pelech delivering a late winner and David Rittich stepping in for the injured Ilya Sorokin with a solid 31-save performance. That victory snapped a brief losing streak and gave New York a boost as they enter Saturday’s rivalry game determined to protect home ice.
The Rangers went into their break with a resounding 7-3 win over the Washington Capitals, highlighted by a five-goal third period and a multi-point night from Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck. Despite that offensive explosion, the Blueshirts have shown inconsistency, particularly in tight games.
Goaltending could be a deciding factor in this game. The Islanders are expected to get David Rittich again if Ilya Sorokin remains unavailable, and Rittich has shown the ability to keep the Isles competitive in close games. The Rangers have relied on Igor Shesterkin’s veteran presence, one of the league’s most trusted netminders. But New York’s offensive inconsistency around him has put additional pressure on his goaltending in recent games.
For the Islanders, Bo Horvat leads the team offensively with 19 goals and 31 points, with Mathew Barzal contributing 29 points as well. On the Rangers’ side, Artemi Panarin has emerged as the club’s top offensive catalyst with 38 points, while Mika Zibanejad and Will Cuylle provide scoring support.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Artemi Panarin | Over 0.5 Points |
Bo Horvat | Over 0.5 Goals |
I am leaning toward the Islanders in this matchup between tri-state area rivals in New York. The Isles dominated the Rangers in the first meeting between these teams this season and they should get the better of the blueshirts again here, thanks to the lack of depth for the Rangers on the attack this year.
