The Czechia vs Denmark Olympic men’s hockey qualifier on Tuesday is expected to be the most competitive of the four qualification playoff games on Tuesday. These teams finished third and ninth in the preliminary group stages, respectively, and the winner will advance to the quarterfinal round. Here, I break down this matchup between European opponents and you will find my Czechia vs Denmark prediction below.
Pick: Denmark +2.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★☆☆
Czechia wrapped up the group stage with a 1‑1‑1 record, including an offensive explosion in a 6‑3 victory over France and an overtime loss to Switzerland. The Czechs showed they can put pucks in the net, scoring nine goals over their last two games after getting shut out by Canada.
Denmark finished with a 1‑2‑0 record, but showed resilience with a 4‑2 win over Latvia after a 6‑3 loss to the United States. The Danes have struggled on defense during this tournament and will need to tighten things up to advance past this round.
Czechia’s goalie situation appears stable enough for a knockout qualifier. Lukas Dostal and Karel Vejmelka both have plenty of NHL experience and will try to shut down the Danes with a spot in the quarters on the line. Denmark’s Frederik Andersen has represented his national team with experience, but Denmark’s defensive efforts have been dismal at times, especially against stronger offensive teams.
Czechia’s lineup includes NHL talent, with multiple forwards capable of making an impact and driving offense across all situations. Their ability to score at even strength and on the power play has been a differentiator. Denmark’s Nikolaj Ehlers and supporting cast have contributed offensively, and Denmark’s balanced attack has been dangerous, but they may need contributions from all four lines to keep pace with Czechia’s scoring depth.
Score Projection: Czechia 4 – Denmark 2 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Czechia 70%, Denmark 30% ATS PRO
This elimination game should favor the deeper Czechia squad, whose offensive depth and roster talent have been more consistent through the group stage of the tournament. But Denmark has found a way to generate some scoring of their own and I am going to take the underdogs to cover the puckline here, even if I expect the Czech side to move onto the next round.
