The 2026 Winter Olympics men’s hockey quarterfinals take center stage on Wednesday, as Canada prepares to take on Czechia. Canada enters this game as the top seed and a dominant force, posting a 3-0 record in group play and outscoring opponents by a wide margin. Their preliminary performance includes a shutout win over Czechia earlier in the tournament, a result the Czechs will try to rebound with a win here. Before the puck drops in Italy, continue reading to get my Czechia vs Canada prediction.
Pick: Over 6.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★★☆
Canada has been the standout team in Group A, finishing 3-0 with a 20-3 goal differential, including a 5-0 win over Czechia in the opening round of preliminary play. That victory featured contributions up and down the lineup, including goals from Macklin Celebrini, Mark Stone, Nathan MacKinnon, and Nick Suzuki, along with strong goaltending from Jordan Binnington.
Czechia secured its quarterfinal berth by winning the qualifying playoff against Denmark, showing resilience to stay alive in the tournament. The Czech team's path has been more challenging, but its ability to grind out results gives it a fighting chance, even against the top seed.
Canada’s Jordan Binnington delivered a shutout against Czechia and received high marks for stopping all 26 shots he faced in that game, helping cement Canada’s superiority in net. While Binnington’s NHL NHL season has been inconsistent, he has elevated his play on the Olympic stage, which bodes well heading into the quarterfinal.
On the Czech side, Lukas Dostal has been a standout all season with an elite save percentage and strong underlying numbers, positioning himself as the team’s key defensive figure. If Dostal can replicate that form, Czechia stands a chance to keep this game competitive, though Canada’s offensive depth will make that task difficult after Dostal struggled against them in the Olympic opener for these teams.
Canada boasts a roster loaded with NHL star talent, headlined by Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Macklin Celebrini, Cale Makar, and others. Collectively, they present an offensive threat from every line and on special teams. On the Czech side, David Pastrnak and Martin Necas provide the highest offensive upside, with Pastrnak’s scoring ability a constant danger. While Czechia has skill, it lacks the depth and secondary scoring that Canada displays.
Score Projection: Canada 5 – Czechia 2 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Canada 70%, Czechia 30% ATS PRO
Canada enters this quarterfinal as the clear favorite with dominant offensive firepower, a stout defense, and goaltending that has risen to the occasion. While Czechia’s goaltender and top line players provide them with a chance to keep the game competitive, the head-to-head result earlier in these Olympics and Canada’s balance make Canada likely to advance to the semifinals. I'll take the over in this game, as Canada should do plenty of scoring in this contest.
