The Toronto Maple Leafs (9–9–2) host the Columbus Blue Jackets (10–8–2) on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena. This game is virtually a pick 'em at most sportsbooks, with both teams trying to shake off some rough results in recent games. Before the puck is dropped in Toronto, continue reading to get my Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs prediction for this matchup.
Columbus enters this game with two losses in their last three games. Their last 10 games show a 4–4–2 record, indicating they’ve been competitive but have not always been able to close games out. They gave up five goals to the Winnipeg Jets in their last game and will need to turn things around defensively to win this matchup.
Toronto is 9–9–2, and their recent form suggests some volatility. They eked out a 3–2 overtime win over the Blues in their last outing. But they had lost five games in a row before that and will try to avoid being sent back into the loss column here.
Goaltending remains a critical question for both teams. For Columbus, their more reliable goalie has been Jet Greaves. Greaves has a 2.79 GAA on the season and has been slightly better than Elvis Merzlikins between the pipes for the Jackets. Goaltending has been a weak link for the Leafs this season. All three of their goalies have GAAs above 3.00 for the season.
Kirill Marchenko and Adam Fantilli are leading the offense for Columbus. Marchenko is riding a 12-game point streak, which shows he’s in excellent form. He leads the Blue Jackets in goals with 8 and assists with 14 this season. Fantilli complements him well with elite shot speed and scoring ability.
William Nylander remains a major threat for the Leafs. His EDGE metric profile shows he’s among the top forwards in high-danger scoring Nylander has 9 goals and a team-high 18 assists on the season so far.
Player | Prop | Projection |
|---|---|---|
Kirill Marchenko (CBJ) | Points | Over 0.5 |
Adam Fantilli (CBJ) | Goals | Over 0.5 |
William Nylander (TOR) | Points | Over 1.5 |
Neither of these teams has played all that well of late. But I think that the Maple Leafs will build on their overtime win in their last outing. The Jackets are playing sub-.500 hockey at home so far this season and the Leafs will take advantage of that en route to a win on home ice.
