The Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers will meet on Monday night at Rogers Place. Both of these teams are off to mediocre starts to their seasons and looking to end their own three-game losing streaks. But only one team will avoid a fourth loss in a row in this matchup. Before the puck is dropped in Edmonton, continue reading to get my Blue Jackets vs Oilers prediction for tonight.
The Oilers are reeling, having just absorbed a demoralizing 9-1 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Every skater for the Oilers ended with a minus-rating and both goalies surrendered four goals or more. That outing exposed gaping defensive holes and was the third loss in a row for Edmonton going into this game.
The Blue Jackets are 7-7-0 and on the road, having lost three straight games as well. They have averaged just two goals per game during their three-game losing streak. Columbus is 4-4-0 on the road this season and will try to get back above the .500 mark both overall and on the road with a win in this matchup.
Edmonton's Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 13 shots before being replaced against the Avs. He will try to get back on the right track starting in this game against the Blue Jackets. Columbus' tandem of Jet Greaves (2.90 GAA, .907 SV%) and Elvis Merzlikins (3.14 GAA, .909 SV%) is serviceable but not elite.
Columbus forward Kirill Marchenko is riding a seven-game point streak, tallying eight goals and eight assists (16 points) so far. He has a plus-10 rating on the season and is carrying the Jackets offensively.
Edmonton counters with its star duo of Connor McDavid (22 points, 5 goals, 17 assists) and Leon Draisaitl (10 goals). McDavid and Draisaitl are coming off one of their worst collective games in recent memory and they will try to bounce back in this contest.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Kirill Marchenko (CBJ) | Over 0.5 Points |
Connor McDavid (EDM) | Over 1.5 Points |
Leon Draisaitl (EDM) | Over 0.5 Goals |
Score Projection: Edmonton 4 – Columbus 3
Win Probability: Edmonton 64%, Columbus 36%
Both of these teams are struggling mightily lately. But I think that the Oilers will be the one to snap their three-game losing streak tonight. Look for the duo of Draisaitl and McDavid to make the difference here, while the offensive woes of the Jackets continue on Monday night.
