The Colorado Avalanche and the Vancouver Canucks will battle it out on the ice on Sunday night. The Avalanche are off to a stellar start, while the Canucks are trying to gain traction at home. Will the Avs extend their lead atop the Central Division or will the Canucks get a much-needed win to help their chances in the Pacific? Here, you can find my Avalanche vs Canucks prediction before the puck is dropped out west.
Pick: Over 6.5
Confidence: ★★★★☆
Colorado arrives here at 9-1-5 this season and they are coming off a resounding 9-1 win on the road against the Edmonton Oilers. They are scoring 3.93 goals per game while allowing just 2.40 goals per game. Vancouver stands at 8-8 with a 2.75 goals per game average for and 3.31 goals against per game. The Canucks have won two of their last three games and will try to continue trending in the right direction with a win tonight.
Colorado are receiving strong netminding from Scott Wedgewood this season. He is 9-1-2 this season and has 2.37 GAA. Vancouver goaltender Thatcher Demko is 5-4 and has a 2.57 GAA going into this matchup. Demko has been a victim of Vancouver's suspect defense and will try to make up for that in this contest.
Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avs with 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) and Cale Makar (6 goals, 14 assists) has been a big reason for their success early in the season. Vancouver’s Kiefer Sherwood leads with the Canucks with nine goals, while Elias Pettersson has three goals and seven assists. Vancouver's supporting cast will need to step up if the Canucks are going to continue their recent surge on home ice.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Nathan MacKinnon (COL) | Over 0.5 goals |
Cale Makar (COL) | Over 0.5 assists |
Kiefer Sherwood (VAN) | Over 0.5 goals |
Elias Pettersson (VAN) | Over 0.5 assists |
Score Projection: Colorado 4 – Vancouver 3
Win Probability: Colorado 65%, Vancouver 35%
Above all else, I'm expecting a high-scoring game between the Canucks and Avalanche on Sunday night. The Canucks are struggling on defense and the Avs are in a great place to take advantage of that. Vancouver should do enough scoring to help this game get over the total as well, in what should be a highly entertaining night in Vancouver.
