The Central Division spotlight lands on Dallas Friday night as the Colorado Avalanche visit the Dallas Stars for a showdown between two Western Conference contenders. Colorado enters the game with one of the best records in the league and continues to produce elite offensive numbers behind its star forwards and dynamic blue line. Dallas, meanwhile, has turned into one of the hottest teams in hockey, riding a lengthy winning streak and protecting home ice with consistency. Who will win when these teams face off in the Metroplex? I attempt to answer that question below with my Avalanche vs Stars prediction.
Pick: Stars Moneyline ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Colorado continues to perform like a Stanley Cup contender. The Avalanche have won 4 of their last 5 games and remain near the top of the NHL standings with over 40 victories on the season. Recent wins against teams like Los Angeles and Anaheim highlight the club’s ability to control games with speed and offensive depth.
Dallas enters the night riding an even stronger stretch. The Stars have rattled off 10 straight wins, a run that includes several convincing victories with balanced scoring all over their lineup. That streak has vaulted Dallas firmly into the upper tier of the Western Conference and made them one of the most dangerous teams heading into the final portion of the regular season.
Colorado has received steady play from Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, who have delivered strong performances since joining the Avalanche. It looks like we are going to get Wedgewood in net for this game, which could cause problems for the scorers of the Stars.
Dallas counters with Jake Oettinger, one of the most reliable goaltenders in the conference. Oettinger continues to anchor the Stars’ defensive structure and has been a major reason for the club’s winning streak. If this game turns into a tight contest late, the battle between Wedgewood and Oettinger could determine the result.
Colorado relies heavily on MacKinnon’s elite playmaking and shooting ability. The Avalanche also benefits from strong offensive support from players like Martin Necas and Brock Nelson, giving the team multiple scoring threats.
Dallas has produced balanced scoring throughout the lineup. Robertson and Johnston have both eclipsed the 30-goal mark, while the blue line led by Miro Heiskanen continues to drive offense from the back end.
Score Projection: Avalanche 3 – Stars 4 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Avalanche 46%, Stars 54% ATS PRO
This matchup has all the ingredients of a playoff preview. Dallas enters with the hotter recent run and the energy of the home crowd, while Colorado brings elite scoring talent and one of the league’s most dangerous top lines. I'm going with the Stars here, in what should be a tight game in the Central.
