The Dallas Stars will host the Anaheim Ducks in NHL action on Thursday night at American Airlines Center. The Ducks are leading the Pacific Division going into Thursday's games and will try to continue shocking the hockey world in this contest. But the Stars are favored at home as they look to burst Anaheim's bubble. Before the puck drops in this Western Conference matchup, you can find my Ducks vs Stars prediction below.
Anaheim enters with an impressive 8-3-1 record. They have one of the stronger offenses in the league, averaging 3.92 goals per game with a positive goal differential. The Ducks have scored 48 goals in total and conceded 37. Their +11 goal differential ranks third in the Western Conference so far this season.
Dallas sits at 7-3-3 despite a pedestrian offense thus far. They are averaging 2.69 goals per game and are 26th in the league in scoring. Their defense allows 2.92 goals per game and they have a -2 goal differential overall. Dallas won in a shootout against the Oilers in their last game and they will try to build on that here.
The goaltenders in this game are evenly matched entering this game. Lukas Dostal of the Ducks is 6-3-1 with a 2.59 GAA and .912 save percentage. Dallas' Jake Oettinger is 5-2-2 for the season. He has a 2.54 GAA and a .913 save percentage this year. Neither team has a clear edge in the goaltending department here.
Leo Carlsson of the Ducks and Mikko Rantanen of the Stars have been the straws that stir the drink of their respective offenses. Carlsson has 18 points this season, including a team-best 13 assists. Rantanen leads the Stars with seven goals and 10 assists. It's entirely possible that the player who wins that matchup will lead their team to a win here.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Leo Carlsson | Over 1.5 points |
Mikko Rantanen | Over 1.5 points |
Score Projection: Anaheim Ducks 4 — Dallas Stars 3
Win Probability: Anaheim 52%, Dallas 48%
The Stars are deserved favorites at home here. But I can't help but back the Ducks based on how they have played so far this season. The Stars have a negative goal differential and I expect the Ducks to take advantage of their lack of offensive consistency. I'll go with the Ducks as an underdog in this interesting Western Conference contest.
