The New York Jets (2–8) head to M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday to take on the Baltimore Ravens (5–5) in an important game for the Ravens. Baltimore is trying to solidify its position as a playoff contender, while the Jets are reeling and have made a change at quarterback. Here, I break down both sides of this matchup in the AFC, and you can find my Jets vs Ravens prediction for this contest below.
This game carries major implications for both squads, albeit for very different reasons. Baltimore is working to build momentum toward a playoff berth and has won four of its last five games. The Ravens’ offense is once again built around Lamar Jackson and bruising back Derrick Henry now that Jackson is back from injury. They will try to team up to break down the Jets defense for four quarters.
The Jets are in shambles. They just announced a quarterback change, benching Justin Fields in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor. The move reflects deep frustration with New York’s lack of production through the air. The team averages just 139.9 passing yards per game, dead last in the league. They are willing to sacrifice the mobility of Fields to hope for better passing production with Taylor.
Baltimore comes into this week a game back of the final playoff spot in the AFC. They will need Jackson to stay healthy down the stretch to have a chance to leapfrog the teams in front of them to claim a playoff berth. The Ravens are also just a game back of the top spot in the AFC North, so they should come out with a sense of urgency here.
The biggest development this week is the Jets’ decision to bench Justin Fields. After a rough outing against New England with just 116 passing yards and a fumble, head coach Aaron Glenn announced Tyrod Taylor as the starter for Week 12. Taylor is 36 and brings experience but not explosive playmaking.
Lamar Jackson remains the engine of the offense for the Ravens. While his passing yardage hasn’t been great this year, his dual-threat ability gives the Ravens a clear edge compared to the backups that played in his place when he was hurt.
Score Projection: Ravens 31 – Jets 16
Win Probability: Ravens 85%, Jets 15%
All signs point to a dominant Ravens performance in this contest. With Baltimore’s run game and the team being back at home, they should be able to impose their will. The Jets’ gamble at quarterback may yield a spark, but Taylor’s limitations and New York’s offensive woes make it hard to trust them to cover a two-touchdown spread. I'm going to lay the points with the Ravens on Sunday afternoon.
