Key Storylines
The Seattle Seahawks looked every bit like the top seed in the NFC when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 in the Divisional Playoffs. Seattle ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and didn’t need another score after that point to hold on, but they got plenty of scores from there to leave no doubt that they were better than the 49ers on that day.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold didn’t need to do much in that game, throwing just 17 passes in a game where Seattle was able to coast for most of the second half. And while it’s good that Darnold got a playoff win under his belt, he didn’t have to do anything to address the criticisms about his previous playoff performances. Against a physical Rams defense, he will need to do more to help his team get a win in this contest.
The Los Angeles Rams did just enough to defeat the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in the Divisional round of the playoffs. Matthew Stafford wasn’t great in that game, failing to throw a touchdown pass. But he didn’t throw any interceptions either, while Chicago’s Caleb Williams threw multiple picks. Stafford’s ability to take care of the football will be even more important in this game against a Seattle defense that is arguably the best in the NFL this year.
