The Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers meet under the lights on Sunday, with kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Detroit enters at 2-1 after surviving the Jets 31-24 last week, while Carolina sits at 1-2 after blowing a fourth-quarter lead in a 21-18 loss to Cleveland.
This should be a fun matchup for Sunday Night Football, but rather than looking at a side or total, I think the best value is in the player prop markets. Below, I break down my three favorite Lions vs Panthers player prop predictions for Sunday night and where our ATS Quantitative Model sees an edge at the current market prices.
McMillan Has the Volume and Downfield Role
McMillan owns a 21.5% target share and 28.6% of Carolina's air yards, with 295 air yards through three games. He's also already topped 70 receiving yards twice this season, including going for 101 yards against Atlanta in Week 2.
Detroit Has Struggled Against Outside Receivers
Detroit has allowed the sixth-most yards per target and ninth-most fantasy points per opportunity to perimeter receivers. That's a good matchup for McMillan, who lined up outside on 68.4% of his routes in Week 1 while still moving into the slot enough to create different matchups.
Game Script Could Push His Volume Higher
McMillan has seen 52% of his targets while Carolina is trailing, compared to 35% while playing with a lead. Detroit has also allowed 979 passing yards through three games, the most in the NFL, so a negative game script could give McMillan plenty of opportunities to clear 70 yards.

Carolina Has Limited Opposing Wide Receivers
The Panthers have allowed the fewest fantasy points and fifth-lowest explosive-catch rate to wide receivers this season. They also play zone on roughly 80% of their defensive snaps, which could make it harder for St. Brown to generate the chunk plays needed to get over 80 yards.
Detroit Could Lean on the Run
Carolina is allowing an NFL-high 193.3 rushing yards per game and 5.7 yards per carry. That's a matchup Detroit should be able to attack with Jahmyr Gibbs, potentially limiting the overall passing volume and the need to feed St. Brown 10-plus targets.
The Volume Hasn't Always Turned Into Yardage
St. Brown owns a massive 32.4% target share, but he's averaging just 6.5 yards per target and 9.9 yards per catch with a 7.9-yard aDOT. He's averaging 76 receiving yards per game and has stayed under 80 in two of three games, including just 19 yards on eight targets last week.

Williams Is Due for Some Positive Regression
Jameson Williams hasn't scored through three games, but the underlying usage is still there. He's playing nearly 90% of Detroit's offensive snaps while accounting for 30.5% of the team's air yards with a 13.2-yard aDOT. He's also coming off four catches for 49 yards against the Jets, so his role hasn't disappeared despite the slow start.
Carolina Is Missing Both Starting Cornerbacks
The Panthers placed Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on IR this week, leaving them without either starting outside corner. That's especially notable for Williams, who does most of his damage on the perimeter and has the speed to punish inexperienced corners if Detroit can isolate him downfield.
The Matchup Creates Big-Play Opportunities
Carolina plays single-high coverage at a 63.5% rate, one of the highest marks in the NFL. Williams struggled against those looks early this season, but he posted a 22% target-per-route rate and 2.31 yards per route run against single-high last year. With Detroit also scoring touchdowns on 79% of its red-zone trips, Williams should have multiple opportunities to finally break through.

Detroit is currently priced as a 3.5-point favorite on Polymarket, with the Lions trading at 51¢ to cover.
That game script fits a couple of our player props above. If Detroit plays from ahead, Carolina may have to throw more in the second half, giving McMillan more chances to clear 70 yards. It could also allow the Lions to lean more on the run late, which would help keep St. Brown under 80 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, the total is set at 51.5, with the Over trading at 49¢ and the Under at 51.5¢. That's one of the highest totals on the Week 4 board, so we should see plenty of scoring opportunities on Sunday night. That also helps the case for Williams to find the end zone, especially with Detroit expected to do its share of the scoring.
Our Detroit Lions vs Carolina Panthers prediction points us in a similar direction. The ATS Quantitative Model projects a 30-24 Detroit win and sees value on the Lions' team total over 27.5, giving us another reason to expect points from this Detroit offense.
