Sunday’s showdown between the Lions and Rams is a big game for more than just playoff purposes. Longtime NFL fans will fixate on the quarterbacks, as former Rams starter Jared Goff now leads Detroit against his old club, while Matthew Stafford gets another chance to carve up a depleted Lions secondary that has lost key safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch to injury.
The Rams are fighting to stay atop the NFC West and bolster their postseason seeding, while Detroit is clawing to stay within reach of the NFC North and secure a Wild Card berth. The status of Rams wide receiver Davante Adams is questionable, but the offense’s momentum remains strong thanks to Stafford’s MVP-caliber season and a versatile receiving corps.
Stafford has been one of the most productive signal callers in the league in 2025, ranking near the top in passing touchdowns and yardage. His connection with the duo of Nacua and Adams, especially in the red zone, makes the Rams’ passing attack lethal even without perfect health at all positions. Stafford’s ability to spread the ball around and generate big plays has been a significant factor in Los Angeles’s offensive success.
Goff continues to lead a potent Lions offense that ranks among the league’s highest scoring units. Detroit has thrived offensively behind Goff’s precise passing and a group of weapons that includes Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs. Goff’s consistency and low interception totals have been key to Detroit’s success, though facing a stout Rams defense this week presents a much tougher challenge than usual.
Score Projection: Detroit Lions 20 – Los Angeles Rams 30
Win Probability: Detroit Lions 32%, Los Angeles Rams 68%
This game has the makings of a tight contest early, but the Rams’ balance of offensive firepower and opportunistic defense gives them a clear edge as the game progresses. Detroit’s offense can keep the score respectable, but Los Angeles’s ability to convert in the red zone and create explosive plays should push the Rams to a win and a cover that will be a huge blow to the playoff hopes of the Lions.
