Dallas and New York open their 2026 seasons Sunday night at MetLife Stadium in an NFC East matchup. Dallas has won 16 of the past 18 meetings between these teams, and Dak Prescott has routinely played well against New York. Still, the Cowboys arrive with a meaningful injury on the offensive line, while the Giants enter the John Harbaugh era with a healthy group of defensive playmakers and a deeper offense around second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Why Our Model Sees Value:

“Dallas carries a deserved premium because of Prescott and its recent dominance of this matchup, but the current price does not fully account for Tyler Smith's absence, New York's pass rush, home-field advantage, and the possibility that Dart's rushing ability keeps drives alive in a close divisional game.”
Dallas the Market Favorite
Polymarket currently prices Dallas at 61¢ to win outright and New York at 40¢. The active spread market is centered on Cowboys -2.5 at 55¢ and Giants +2.5 at 46¢. The total sits at 48.5, with the over at 48¢ and under at 53¢. Those prices describe a competitive game while still giving Dallas a clear edge.
We Project a Tight Game
Using the 46¢ price at +2.5, my model places the Giants' chance of covering +2.5 at 51.5%, creating a 5.5% edge. That value begins to disappear around 49¢, which is the highest price I would use for this prediction.

Dallas still has the most proven quarterback in this matchup, which is a huge factor when making a Cowboys vs Giants prediction. Prescott threw for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2025. George Pickens produced 1,429 receiving yards, while CeeDee Lamb added 1,077. Together, Pickens and Lamb give Dallas a pair of receivers capable of changing a game quickly.
Protection is where the Giants can change the game. Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith underwent thumb surgery and was placed on injured reserve, leaving T.J. Bass expected to start at left guard. Dallas also entered the week with tackle Ajani Cornelius limited by a knee issue.
New York can attack that weakened front with Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Burns recorded 16.5 sacks last season, and the Giants have enough edge talent to force Dallas into quicker throws than they'd like.
Dart is one of the biggest variables in the game. He completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions as a rookie. His running ability was even more valuable than those passing totals. Dart gained 487 yards on the ground at 5.7 yards per carry and scored nine rushing touchdowns.
That mobility matters against a Dallas defense undergoing major changes. Dart does not need to outplay Prescott for Giants +2.5 to succeed. He needs to avoid short-field turnovers, escape enough pressure to extend drives, and force Dallas to account for him as a runner.
Malik Nabers could change the ceiling of New York's passing attack this year. He was a full participant in practice this week after recovering from the knee injury that ended his 2025 season after four games. Andrew Thomas, Theo Johnson, and several other Giants who appeared on the injury report were also full participants.
Nabers recorded 271 receiving yards and two touchdowns in only four games last year after producing 1,204 yards as a rookie in 2024. His presence gives Dart a true downfield threat and should create more space for the rest of the offense if he remains healthy.
Dallas has the stronger established passing attack and owns a major historical advantage in this rivalry. Prescott has thrown 31 touchdowns against nine interceptions across 17 games against the Giants and carries a 101.5 passer rating in those meetings.
The gap looks smaller entering this season, though. New York is healthier than it was for much of 2025, Dallas is missing an important blocker, and the Giants have the type of edge rush that can disrupt Prescott before longer routes develop. New York also has enough rushing options between Dart and its backs to shorten the game.
Dallas remains my more likely outright winner, but a Cowboys victory by one or two points fits this matchup well. My projected score is Dallas 26, New York 24, making Giants +2.5 the stronger prediction at the current market price.
