Commanders vs 49ers Win Probability & Market Pricing

Updated October 16, 2026

The Washington Commanders travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers on Monday Night Football in Week 6. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with the game airing on ESPN and ABC.
Rather than backing either side or the total, I think the best value is on a player prop: Christian McCaffrey Under 39.5 receiving yards (40+ receiving yards — No on Polymarket).
Below, I'll break down the stats, trends, and matchup factors that make this my favorite trade for Monday night.
Our Model Sees Value
Christian McCaffrey Under 39.5 receiving yards is currently trading at 52¢ on Polymarket (40+ receiving yards — No), while the ATS Quantitative Model gives it a 56.3% chance of hitting. That creates a 4.3% edge at the current price, with our model projecting McCaffrey for around 32 receiving yards and recommending buying up to 55¢.
Declining Receiving Production
McCaffrey is averaging just 27.4 receiving yards and 3.8 receptions per game this season, down from 54.4 yards and 6.0 catches last year. He's finished Under 39.5 receiving yards in three of five games, including each of his last two, and is averaging only 4.3 targets over his last three outings. He also hasn't recorded a reception longer than 16 yards this season.
Washington Has Limited Running Backs as Receivers
Despite its overall defensive struggles, Washington has allowed opposing running backs just 30.2 receiving yards and 3.8 receptions per game through five games. Running backs have finished with fewer than 40 combined receiving yards in three of those five matchups, making this a favorable spot for McCaffrey's Under.

Why Our Model Sees Value:

“I don't think the market has fully caught up with McCaffrey's declining receiving production, creating value on his Under. He's now 30, and the 49ers seem more focused on managing his workload and keeping him healthy for the playoffs than piling up touches. With San Francisco favored by more than a touchdown, the game script could also limit his receiving opportunities. Give me Under 39.5 receiving yards.”
Christian McCaffrey is still one of the NFL's most versatile running backs, but his receiving numbers have dropped quite a bit this season. Through five games, he's caught 19 passes on 25 targets for 137 yards, averaging just 3.8 receptions and 27.4 receiving yards per game.
That's a big difference from 2025, when McCaffrey averaged 6.0 receptions and 54.4 receiving yards per game. His yards per catch have also dropped from 9.1 to 7.2, showing that he's not getting nearly as much production out of his opportunities.
The recent trends are encouraging for our Under, too. McCaffrey has seen just 13 targets over his last three games and finished with 18 and 15 receiving yards in his last two outings. Overall, he's stayed below 39.5 receiving yards in three of five games this season.
Washington has struggled against the pass this season, but opposing running backs haven't had nearly as much success. Through five games, the Commanders have allowed just 19 receptions for 151 yards to running backs, an average of 7.9 yards per catch.
The individual matchups are encouraging, too. Saquon Barkley finished with -3 receiving yards, while Javonte Williams managed just 20. Seattle's George Holani is the only running back to clear 39.5 receiving yards against Washington this season, finishing with 48 in a game the Commanders led for most of the way.
One thing that's stood out about McCaffrey this season is his lack of big plays. Through five games, his longest rush and reception are both just 16 yards. He hasn't recorded a single play of 20-plus yards, which is unusual for someone who's been one of the NFL's most explosive running backs.
For comparison, McCaffrey had seven receptions and three runs of 20-plus yards in 2025. Back in 2023, he had nine runs of 20-plus yards, including a 72-yarder.
At 30 years old, it's fair to wonder whether age and years of heavy usage are starting to catch up with him. He's still productive, but without those big plays, clearing 39.5 receiving yards becomes much more difficult.
San Francisco has made an effort to cut back on McCaffrey's workload after he led the NFL with 413 touches in 2025. Through five games this season, he's averaging just 16 touches per game and playing 69.4% of the offensive snaps, down from 83% last year.
Rookie Kaelon Black has taken on a bigger role, playing 27.3% of the snaps and recording 37 carries for 136 yards. He even outcarried McCaffrey 14-10 in the season opener, showing that the 49ers are comfortable giving him meaningful opportunities.
Kyle Shanahan has also talked about keeping McCaffrey fresher throughout games. With San Francisco off to a 5-0 start, I don't see much reason for the 49ers to change that approach.
