Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Houston Rockets
- Date & Time: January 15, 2026, 7:30 p.m. ET
- Venue: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas
- Broadcast: Prime Video
Key Storylines
- The Thunder come in as 4.5-point favorites after building a 34-7 overall record this season, including four straight wins. Their defense remains one of the best in the league, while the offense generates elite scoring around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. The Rockets are solid offensively, but their recent play and several injuries could complicate their performance here.
- Houston snapped a three-game skid with a 119-113 win over the Chicago Bulls, led by Kevin Durant’s 28 points along with 23 from Alperen Sengun and 23 from Amen Thompson. The win halted a stretch of shaky results that included losses to the Trail Blazers and Kings. However, Fred VanVleet is out for the year and Dorian Finney-Smith and Tari Eason are day-to-day, which could limit Houston’s perimeter defense significantly.
- These teams played one of the more memorable games of the first half of the NBA season this year. The Thunder hosted the Rockets on their ring night to start the 2025-26 season and the Thunder came away with a double-overtime victory in that contest despite some incredible late-game shot-making from Durant. We could be in for another competitive contest between these teams here.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- This season’s only meeting between these teams went to double overtime before Oklahoma City emerged with a 125-124 victory.
- The Thunder are 20-21 against the spread this year, and 8-2 overall in their last 10 games.
- The Rockets are just 18-19 against the spread this season.
- The under is 21-20 in games the Thunder have played in so far this year.
- Houston is 19-17-1 favoring the over in their games going into Thursday night's matchup with OKC.
Thunder vs Rockets Model Projection
- Score Projection: Thunder 118 – Rockets 117 ATS PRO
- Win Probability: Thunder 52%, Rockets 48% ATS PRO
Final Thoughts
I am anticipating another incredibly close game between the Thunder and Rockets on Thursday night. While the Thunder could very well come away with the win in the end, I think that the Rockets will cover the number as an underdog against OKC for the second time in two tries this year. Look for the absence of Isaiah Hartenstein to be impactful, as Sengun should have a big game for the Rockets in a game that comes down to the wire.
