The New York Knicks will hit the road on Friday to take on the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons in what shapes up as the NBA’s biggest game of the night. With the Pistons holding a better record this season but the Knicks riding an eight-game winning streak, the Knicks are slight favorites in a game that could go either way. Here, I break down this huge Eastern Conference contest and give you my Knicks vs Pistons prediction in the NBA.
Pick: Pistons +1.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 3/5
Detroit sits atop the Eastern standings with a 37-13 record, outpacing New York’s 33-18 mark, and remains one of the more balanced teams in the association this season. The Pistons score 117.5 points per game while allowing just 110.3, a combination that has them among the better defensive units in the league. They also control the glass effectively, pulling down nearly 46 rebounds per outing.
The Knicks have responded to their midseason slump with an eight-game winning streak, including victories against solid opponents like the Nuggets and Raptors. But recent media reports highlight some injury concerns, including the loss of key wing shooter Miles McBride to surgery after a sports hernia diagnosis. This could impact the team's spacing and perimeter defense as the Knicks look to maintain offensive flow.
The Pistons will play the second night of a back-to-back, coming off a 126-117 home loss to Washington despite Cade Cunningham’s 30 points, eight boards, and eight assists. Injuries to Detroit’s Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris limited their effectiveness in that game, and if either remains out or limited Friday night, it shifts the edge slightly toward the visitors.
Score Projection: Knicks 115 – Pistons 117
Win Probability: Knicks 47%, Pistons 53%
This encounter is a fine example of how two excellent Eastern Conference teams can be separated by the slightest of factors. Detroit’s home advantage and recent history of success in close games give them the upper hand as a slight underdog here as far as I'm concerned. I'll go with the Pistons to win this game and to avoid being swept on their back-to-back before the weekend.
