Sunday night in the NBA is headlined by an inter-conference matchup of playoff contenders, as the Minnesota Timberwolves visit the Boston Celtics in a game with playoff implications on both sides. Minnesota has been one of the better offensive teams in the league, while Boston continues to lean on depth and defense as it gets healthy later in the season. Before tip-off from Boston, continue reading to get my Timberwolves vs Celtics prediction.
Minnesota enters this game with one of the league’s highest-scoring offenses, averaging nearly 120 points per game. The Timberwolves have leaned heavily on star guard Anthony Edwards and a versatile frontcourt, though Edwards being out should definitely hurt the Wolves in this contest. Their recent loss to Portland showed some vulnerability in late-game execution, but overall, the team remains firmly in the Western Conference playoff picture.
Boston has won four games in a row and continues to stack wins at home, where it has been particularly strong this season. With Jayson Tatum no longer sidelined, the Celtics have found scoring through multiple contributors around him, including Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. Boston’s defense remains its backbone, allowing just 107 points per game, one of the better marks in the NBA.
Boston Celtics
Minnesota Timberwolves
Stat | Timberwolves | Celtics |
|---|---|---|
Points per game | 118.6 | 114.4 |
Points allowed per game | 114.8 | 107.0 |
Team Field Goal % | 48% | 46% |
Rebounds per game | 44.4 | 46.4 |
Assists per game | 26.2 | 24.5 |
If Anthony Edwards was healthy for this game, this would be a pretty evenly-matched contest between teams looking to make a playoff-caliber statement late in the regular season. But Edwards is not healthy and that should give the advantage to the Celtics in a big way here. With Tatum back on the floor and playing well, I'll lay the points with Boston, who should win this contest by double-digits.
