On Friday night, the Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers will square off in a Western Conference contest at Moda Center in Portland. Both teams enter this contest with losing records and are jockeying for position in the crowded playoff picture, but recent roster shifts offer plenty of intrigue beyond just what the standings say. Here, I take a closer look at this contest between Western Conference foes and you can find my Grizzlies vs Trail Blazers prediction below.
Pick: Grizzlies +8.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★☆☆
Memphis enters this game with significant injury issues. According to the latest injury report, the Grizzlies will be without pieces such as Ja Morant, Zach Edey, and Brandon Clarke, while other rotation players remain questionable or out. This has forced role players like Cam Spencer, Cedric Coward, and Jaylen Wells into greater roles. Memphis recently snapped a lengthy skid with victories over Minnesota and Sacramento, led by Ty Jerome’s strong scoring and playmaking in his limited time on the court.
Meanwhile, Portland has its own health questions, though there is optimism surrounding the potential return of Scoot Henderson from a long-term hamstring injury. Deni Avdija is listed as questionable with a back strain, which could dampen Portland’s offensive output. Portland has lost its last six games, suggesting there may be systemic issues beyond just injuries. But they are favored to get back into the win column in this matchup.
Score Projection: Memphis 115 – Portland 120
Win Probability: Memphis 43%, Portland 57%
Portland has the home advantage and has been healthier recently, but their prolonged losing streak and defensive lapses make them vulnerable even against undermanned opponents. Memphis’ injury situation weakens their upside as well, but someone has to cover the number here. Taking the Grizzlies with the points offers value if you believe Portland will continue to find consistency on both ends of the floor, which I do.
