Nuggets vs Thunder Win Probability & Market Pricing

Updated October 22, 2026

The Denver Nuggets travel to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder on Thursday, October 22. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET at Paycom Center, with the game airing on ESPN.
The Thunder opened their season with a 116-104 win over San Antonio, getting some revenge on the Spurs after they eliminated Oklahoma City in last year's Western Conference Finals. Denver and three-time MVP Nikola Jokić, meanwhile, begin their season looking to spoil the Thunder's home opener.
For this matchup, I'm focusing on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 29.5 points. I'll break down why I like SGA to reach 30 points, including the stats, trends, and matchup factors behind my latest NBA player prop prediction.
SGA's Recent Success Against Denver
Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34, 36, and 35 points in his three regular-season meetings with the Nuggets last season, averaging 35.0 points on 56.1% shooting. He also averaged 10 free-throw attempts per game in those matchups.
Favorable Defensive Matchup
Denver ranked 21st in defensive rating last season, allowing roughly 116 points per 100 possessions. Nikola Jokić has also struggled defending pick-and-roll actions, which could create opportunities for SGA to attack the basket or get to his preferred midrange spots.
Consistent Scoring Volume
SGA averaged 31.1 points in just 33.2 minutes per game last season and opened 2026-27 with 32 points on 27 field-goal attempts against San Antonio. He needed only four free-throw attempts to reach that total, showing he can get to 30 even without drawing a ton of fouls.

Why Our Model Sees Value:

“Yes, I know this one might seem a bit obvious, and the public will probably be all over SGA's points Over tonight, but I still see some value at the current price. Denver led the NBA in scoring last season (122.1 PPG), which could help keep this game competitive and SGA on the floor. Oklahoma City's offseason departures could also mean more scoring opportunities for him. And with the 2025 MVP facing three-time MVP Nikola Jokić on national television, I expect SGA to come out looking to make a statement.”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30+ points in 43 of 68 games (63.2%) last season, after hitting that mark in 49 of 77 games (63.6%) in 2024-25. That's a 63.4% hit rate across his last 145 regular-season games, so reaching 30 has become pretty routine for him.
His workload is a big reason why. SGA averaged 31.1 points on 19.4 field-goal attempts and 9.0 free-throw attempts per game last season, with a usage rate around 33%. He also shot an impressive 66.5% true shooting.
That carried over into Tuesday's opener against San Antonio, where he put up 32 points on 27 shots in 36 minutes. It's only one game, but there's little reason to expect his scoring role to change much this season.
Gilgeous-Alexander gave Denver plenty of problems last season, scoring 34, 36, and 35 points in their three regular-season meetings. He averaged 35.0 points on 56.1% shooting and 12.3 assists per game.
Denver did, however, have more success slowing him down during the 2025 playoffs. Christian Braun held SGA to 8-of-23 shooting (34.8%) as his primary defender in Games 3 and 4, while the Nuggets used zone defense on 28.6% of possessions over the final three games.
Oklahoma City managed just 0.92 points per half-court possession against that zone, as Denver crowded SGA's driving lanes and forced him to give up the ball. If Denver goes back to that approach tonight, it'll be interesting to see how SGA adjusts.
The Oklahoma City Thunder made some notable changes this offseason, trading away Luguentz Dort, Isaiah Joe, and Aaron Wiggins. Those three combined for roughly 59 minutes per game last season, leaving plenty of playing time and scoring opportunities to redistribute.
Oklahoma City added rookies Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz, while Cason Wallace, Ajay Mitchell, and Jared McCain are expected to take on bigger roles. Mitchell averaged 13.6 points per game last season, while Joe's departure leaves a gap in the team's outside shooting after he connected on 42.3% of his three-point attempts.
With several players adjusting to new roles, the question is how quickly Oklahoma City's rotation will start to click. If the supporting cast takes time to find its rhythm, the Thunder could lean more heavily on SGA to generate offense, giving him additional scoring opportunities early in the season.
Polymarket has the total set at 236.5 points, with the Over trading at 50¢ on Polymarket. That points to a high-scoring matchup, which should work in SGA's favor.
The bigger concern is Oklahoma City being an 8.5-point favorite, also priced at 50¢ to cover. If the Thunder pull away early, SGA could lose valuable fourth-quarter minutes.
However, Denver has covered 22 straight games as an underdog of six or more points against opponents coming off a win. If that trend holds, SGA should have a better chance of playing his usual minutes and reaching 30 points.
