Updated September 12, 2026
Rafa Garcia and Rongzhu meet in a lightweight preliminary bout at Noche UFC on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with both arriving in some of the best form of their UFC careers. Garcia has won 3 straight and 7 of his last 9, including a decision over Alexander Hernandez in April. Rongzhu has also won 3 straight, most recently stopping Victor Martinez in the opening round in May. The market has sided clearly with the younger Chinese lightweight, but both fighters have proven they can grind out results of late.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“Rongzhu deserves to be favored, but the current price appears to place too little weight on Garcia’s ability to turn extended striking exchanges into clinches, takedown attempts, and difficult minutes along the fence.”
Our Model Prefers Garcia's Price
At roughly 40¢, Garcia is being priced as though he wins this matchup about 4 times in every 10 attempts. My projection puts him closer to 45%, leaving a 5% model edge at the current price.
Garcia's Path to Victory
Rongzhu can absolutely take over if Garcia is forced into a high-volume kickboxing match for 15 minutes. Garcia’s route to a win is to pressure Rongzhu backward, mix level changes into his boxing, force clinch exchanges, and make Rongzhu defend repeatedly. Even unsuccessful wrestling attempts can reduce the space Rongzhu needs to establish his preferred rhythm. At 40¢, Garcia does not need to be the more likely winner for his price to offer value.

Garcia enters Saturday after 3 consecutive victories. He defeated Vinc Pichel by unanimous decision in March 2025, stopped Jared Gordon with strikes in the third round at Noche UFC in September 2025, and then earned another unanimous decision against Alexander Hernandez in April 2026. That run has taken his professional record to 19-4 and continued a stretch in which he has won 7 of his last 9 fights.
The Hernandez victory showed Garcia can maintain his physical approach against an athletic lightweight without needing an early finish. The Gordon fight provided a different example of his offense. Garcia landed 91 significant strikes, scored 2 takedowns, and eventually broke Gordon down for the third-round stoppage.
Rongzhu is on an impressive run of his own. After losing to Chris Padilla by doctor stoppage in September 2024, he responded by defeating Kody Steele and Austin Hubbard by unanimous decision in 2025. He followed those victories by stopping Victor Martinez just 1:10 into the first round in May 2026.
That gives Rongzhu 3 straight victories and a 28-6 professional record heading into Noche UFC. At 26, he is 6 years younger than Garcia and will try to use that youth to his advantage in this bout.
Garcia is listed as a boxer, but evaluating him purely through his hands misses a large part of what makes him effective. He averages approximately 3.22 takedowns per 15 minutes and has repeatedly used wrestling to alter the shape of fights. He can shoot in open space, attack from the clinch, and use takedown threats to make opponents less comfortable planting their feet.
His striking statistics are more modest than Rongzhu's. Garcia lands about 4.28 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.42. His value comes from combining that striking with physical pressure rather than attempting to win a technical kickboxing contest.
Garcia should want Rongzhu working backward and defending several different forms of offense. Giving Rongzhu open space for extended periods would play directly into the favorite's strengths.
Rongzhu brings the superior offensive striking numbers. He lands 6.05 significant strikes per minute at 51% accuracy, considerably higher output than Garcia. He has also produced 16 knockout victories across his career, so Garcia cannot simply walk through his offense without consequences.
One number that could determine the entire fight is Rongzhu's 84% takedown defense. If that figure holds up against Garcia, the matchup changes dramatically. Garcia would then have to spend far more time striking at range against a fighter who is taller, has a slight reach advantage, and throws at a faster rate.
If Garcia can consistently push Rongzhu back, reach the clinch, and force extended wrestling sequences, the fight becomes far closer to even than the market suggests. Garcia has enough experience and conditioning to work that style for 3 rounds.
If Rongzhu repeatedly stuffs the initial takedown and quickly separates, Garcia could be in trouble. Rongzhu's 6.02 significant strikes landed per minute compared with Garcia's 4.28 creates a sizable output difference in a mostly standing fight. His 2-inch height advantage and 1-inch reach advantage also help him operate from outside Garcia's preferred pressure range.
The market appears to expect Rongzhu to keep enough of it standing to justify a price near 61¢. My projection agrees that he is the more likely winner, but by a smaller margin.
Garcia's recent results, wrestling, and ability to make fights physically demanding give him a realistic route to 2 rounds on the scorecards or a late finish. I make Rongzhu roughly 55% and Garcia 45%. With Garcia available around 40¢, that difference makes Garcia my prediction at the current price.
