The Texas Rangers will travel to Cleveland to take on the Guardians on Saturday night. This is a huge game in the American League playoff picture, with the Guardians involved in both the AL Central and AL Wild Card races. The Guardians enter as modest favorites at home, while the Rangers will look to spoil Cleveland’s momentum. Before first pitch from Northeast Ohio, continue reading to get my Rangers vs Guardians prediction.
Jacob Latz is projected to start for Texas in this game. He enters this start carrying a 2.80 ERA and a 2-0 record. Cleveland will counter with Joey Cantillo on the mound. Cantillo is 5–3 with a 3.21 ERA for the year. The total for this game has been set at 7.5 runs. That implies an expectation of a low-scoring game where the starting pitchers on both sides have a decent amount of success.
The Rangers enter this game with an 81–79 record and they can clinch a finish above .500 with a win here. They snapped a four-game road losing streak with a 7–3 win over Cleveland in the previous game, fueled by a three-run homer from Alejandro Osuna and a dominant seven-inning start by Jack Leiter. Cleveland has lost two games in a row and will look to get back on track here.
Score Projection: Cleveland 5 – Texas 3
Win Probability: Cleveland 58%, Texas 42%
This game carries high stakes for the Guardians. I expect Cleveland to put their two-game losing streak to an end here, getting the better of Latz and holding on to get an important win. My best bet for this game is for the Guardians to win on the moneyline, but I don't mind the idea of taking Cleveland to cover the runline as a favorite if you are a bettor who can tolerate a little more risk.
