The Cleveland Guardians will host the Texas Rangers to open the final series of the regular season for these two teams in 2025. With postseason spots on the line and a division title hanging in the balance, this matchup is huge for the Guardians. The Rangers are out of playoff contention but will look to finish strong and play spoiler over the next three games. Here, I break down this American League matchup and you can find my Rangers vs Guardians prediction below.
The Rangers will hand the ball to Jack Leiter for this game. Leiter is 9‑10 on the season with a 3.92 ERA. Leiter has been a mixed story in 2025, capable of sharp starts but also vulnerable to slip-ups. The Guardians will go with Slade Cecconi on the hill. His ERA is listed at 4.15 and he is 7-6 on the season. Cecconi likely has more room for error in this start thanks to Cleveland’s bullpen depth and playing at home. But these starters are pretty evenly matched on paper.
The Rangers enter this game having lost two out of three to the Twins in Arlington, losing 4‑0 in their last home game. They now stand at 80‑79 as they head into Cleveland. Texas needs to win two out of three games in this series to finish above .500 for the season. The Guardians won two out of three over the Detroit Tigers in their last series and are tied atop the AL Central. The Guardians have the tiebreaker over the Tigers and Cleveland is in control of its own destiny in the division race.
Player Prop | Type | Pick |
|---|---|---|
José Ramírez | Home Runs | Over 0.5 |
Jack Leiter | Strikeouts | Under 4.5 |
Slade Cecconi | Strikeouts | Over 4.5 |
Score Projection: Rangers 4 — Guardians 6
Win Probability: Rangers 38%, Guardians 62%
In what should be a competitive game, I lean toward the Guardians on the moneyline. Cleveland enters this series with more momentum, superior bullpen support, and home-field advantage. The Rangers have been a completely different team at home than they have been on the road and that should give the Guardians a great shot to get a win here that will keep them atop the AL Central standings for at least one more day.
