The Pittsburgh Pirates head to Texas on Tuesday night to open a three-game set against the Rangers, bringing one of the National League’s stronger early-season records into Arlington. Pittsburgh has been productive at the plate and efficient on the mound through the first few weeks, while Texas has hovered around .500 and is looking to regain its footing after a shaky stretch. Here, I break down this Pirates vs Rangers opener and make my pick for what is expected to be a tight game in Texas.

Pirates vs Rangers Model Projection
- Score Projection: Pittsburgh Pirates 5 - Texas Rangers 4
- Win Probability: Pittsburgh Pirates 52%, Texas Rangers 48%
Pittsburgh brings the more complete team into this game. The lineup has been more productive across the board, and the pitching staff has limited damage effectively. Mlodzinski’s early-season form stands out, especially his ability to keep the ball in the yard, which is key against a Texas lineup that relies on its power.
Texas still has the talent to swing this game, especially with hitters like Seager and Burger capable of changing the score quickly. However, Rocker’s inconsistency and the Rangers’ recent skid make it difficult to trust them as favorites. I'll go with the Pirates to hand the Rangers a third straight loss in what should be an entertaining matchup between interleague opponents.
