The 2026 MLB season opens with an interleague clash as the New York Yankees travel west to face the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night. With both teams carrying playoff expectations entering the season, this Yankees vs Giants game offers us the first chance to see how these teams look on the field rather than on paper. The Yankees enter as slight road favorites thanks to strong starting pitching, while the Giants will look to defeat them with a productive lineup and home-field advantage at Oracle Park.
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: New York Yankees vs San Francisco Giants
- Date & Time: Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 8:05 PM
- Starting Pitchers: Max Fried vs Logan Webb
- Stadium: Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA
- Broadcast: Netflix
Pitching Matchup
- Max Fried takes the ball for New York after a dominant 2025 season with 19 wins and a sub-3.00 ERA. He is the opening night starter for the Yankees thanks to an injury situation for Gerrit Cole that has carried over into the very early portion of this season.
- The Giants are going with Logan Webb as their starting pitcher for this season opener. Webb ranked 30th in the league in WHIP last season and is one of the best pitchers in the league when at his best. But he had a 15-11 record, as he received less run support than a pitcher like Fried, while both pitchers were very good individually in 2025.
Key Players
Yankees
- Aaron Judge continues to anchor the Yankees' lineup after a 53-home run campaign in 2025. Judge struggled down the stretch in the World Baseball Classic these last few weeks and will try to sttle back into a rhythm with his club.
- Trent Grisham is the projected lead-off hitter for the Yankees this season. As the hitter projected to bat in front of Judge early this season, he will be important in getting runners on base and preventing opposing pitchers from being too careful with Judge.
Giants
- Rafael Devers had 30 home runs and 109 RBI last season for the Giants. If he can make his presence felt early in this game, the Giants could get into the Yankees' bullpen and eliminate the threat of Fried on the bump.
- Luis Arraez is a player who has hit over .400 for long stretches of previous campaigns. If the Giants' lineup is going to get off to a strong start in 2026, Arraez's contributions will be a big reason for that happening.
Betting Trends & H2H
- The Giants went 42-39 at home last season.
- The Yankees were 44-37 on the road in 2025.
- New York stayed under the total in 51.5% of their games a season ago.
- San Francisco saw 50.7% of their games stay under their totals in 2025.
- The Giants went 2-1 against the Yankees last season, winning two of their three games in the Bronx.
Yankees vs Giants Pick & Model Projection
- Score Projection: New York Yankees 2 - San Francisco Giants 3 ATS PRO
- Pick: Under 6.5 ATS PRO
- Confidence: 4 out of 5 ATS PRO
- Win Probability: New York Yankees 48%, San Francisco Giants 52% ATS PRO
This matchup should be an early-season pitcher's duel. Both Max Fried and Logan Webb give their respective teams the ability to get some length from their starting pitching and the ability to hang zeroes on the scoreboard early on. Oracle Park tends to suppress scoring, and the ability of both starters to limit hard contact should neutralize much of that production. My best bet for this contest is the under, as I project a total of five runs scored in this Opening Night game from San Francisco.
