The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers continue their weekend series on Saturday night at American Family Field after Milwaukee grabbed a 5-1 win in the opener. The Brewers have quietly become one of the hottest clubs in baseball, winning 12 of their last 14 games entering Saturday. Los Angeles still owns one of the best records in the National League, though the club has dealt with injuries across the pitching staff and now has concerns surrounding Max Muncy after he exited Friday’s game following a hit by pitch on the wrist. Before first pitch from Wisconsin, continue reading for my Dodgers vs Brewers prediction.
Roki Sasaki enters this start with a 2-3 record and a 5.09 ERA through 40.2 innings. The electric right-hander still owns swing-and-miss stuff, recording 39 strikeouts already this season, but command issues have created trouble at times. Sasaki has allowed 9 home runs and carries a 1.45 WHIP entering this outing. Milwaukee’s lineup has handled velocity well during this recent stretch, which puts pressure on Sasaki to avoid early mistakes.
Robert Gasser has made only limited appearances this season after returning to the Milwaukee rotation. His current 4.50 ERA comes in a small sample, though the Brewers trust his ability to keep hitters off balance with soft contact and changing speeds. Milwaukee’s bullpen has been one of the club’s biggest strengths recently, which lowers the burden on Gasser to work deep into the game.
The Dodgers still have the more dangerous lineup overall, but Milwaukee enters Saturday playing cleaner baseball and getting stronger production from the bullpen. Friday’s opener also highlighted how quickly the Brewers can create offense early in games.
Sasaki carries huge upside, though his elevated ERA and home run issues remain difficult to ignore against a Brewers lineup currently swinging the bat with confidence. Milwaukee also has the edge in bullpen form entering this matchup, which matters greatly in a game expected to stay competitive into the late innings. Because of that, I'll take Milwaukee as a home dog to get it done on Saturday night.
