A National League West rivalry continues Wednesday night at Chase Field as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks meet in the third game of their four-game series. Los Angeles enters the contest with a 39-22 record after a 6-5 victory on Tuesday, while Arizona sits at 32-28 after dropping four of its last five games. The spotlight falls on a premier pitching matchup featuring Shohei Ohtani and Zac Gallen, with bettors weighing whether the Dodgers can continue their recent surge in this Dodgers vs Diamondbacks matchup in Phoenix.
The pitching matchup is the primary reason for backing Los Angeles. Ohtani has been dominant through his first nine starts, carrying a 5-2 record and a 0.82 ERA into Wednesday's outing. Meanwhile, Gallen has struggled for much of the season, posting a 5.16 ERA and enduring a difficult May. The Dodgers also tagged him for four runs in four innings earlier this season.
Offensively, Los Angeles owns one of the most productive lineups in baseball. The Dodgers rank first in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, and team ERA, creating a sizable edge over Arizona in several key categories. Shohei Ohtani enters the game riding an 18-game on-base streak and is batting .420 during that stretch, while Freddie Freeman appears to be heating up after a three-hit performance on Tuesday. With the Dodgers winning 15 of their last 19 games and Arizona struggling to find consistency, Los Angeles deserves favorite status despite playing on the road.
The foundation of the parlay is Los Angeles on the moneyline, supported by the substantial advantage on the mound. Ohtani has been one of baseball's most effective starters and has consistently worked deep enough into games to accumulate strikeouts. The total is slightly more aggressive, but Gallen's struggles combined with the firepower present in both lineups make a higher-scoring game a realistic outcome. The listed moneyline reflects current market pricing from DraftKings Sportsbook.
Shohei Ohtani to Hit a Home Run
Ohtani is in outstanding form at the plate. He enters the game on an 18-game on-base streak, collected a double and triple Tuesday, drove in two runs, and continues to be the most dangerous power threat in the lineup. Against a struggling Gallen, Ohtani offers the best combination of current form and matchup value in the home run market.
Category | Dodgers | Diamondbacks |
|---|---|---|
Batting Average | .262 | .245 |
OPS | .787 | .706 |
wOBA | .346 | .313 |
wRC+ | 121 | 97 |
Team ERA | 3.13 | 4.05 |
xFIP | 3.70 | 4.26 |
The statistical comparison highlights why Los Angeles remains the team to beat in this matchup. The Dodgers have produced elite numbers at the plate and on the mound, ranking near the top of baseball in run production while also owning the best team ERA in the majors. Arizona has been competitive at home, but the gap in offensive efficiency and starting pitching is difficult to ignore.
For bettors, the safest approach is backing the Dodgers to win outright. Ohtani's dominance on the mound, combined with the current form of the Los Angeles lineup, creates a favorable setup against a Diamondbacks team that has struggled to string together victories lately. Arizona certainly has enough talent to stay competitive, especially at Chase Field, but the overall profile points to Los Angeles extending its strong run with another division victory.
