The Kansas City Royals and Athletics continue their midweek series on Wednesday, with both clubs bringing some recent positives into this contest. Kansas City has started to turn things around after a slow opening to the season, while the Athletics remain one of the more surprising teams in the American League with a winning record. The opener of this series went to the Royals in extra innings, powered by a late home run from Bobby Witt Jr., and that result adds intrigue heading into Game 2 of this Royals vs Athletics series.

Royals vs Athletics Model Projection
- Score Projection: Royals 5 - Athletics 4
- Win Probability: Royals 52%, Athletics 48%
Both of these teams are nearly identical in batting average, runs scored, and overall offensive output. The difference in this game comes from pitching efficiency. Michael Wacha has been far more consistent than Luis Severino, limiting walks and keeping hitters off balance. That edge on the mound gives Kansas City a slight advantage, even on the road.
I expect a competitive game with scoring opportunities on both sides, especially given the hitter-friendly environment in Sacramento. But the gap in pitching talent has led me to back the Royals here, who should grab a fifth win in a row.
