The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox will face off at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon. The Red Sox sealed a wild-card berth with a thrilling walk-off win over Detroit on Friday. Boston will look to build on momentum, while Detroit must respond to avoid falling out of the playoff picture entirely. Here, I take a closer look at this American League matchup and give you my Tigers vs Red Sox prediction for Saturday's game.
Detroit has not decided on a starting pitcher for this game just yet. No matter who the Tigers have chosen on the mound recently, it hasn't translated to wins. They will need to figure something out on the mound to avoid another loss in a key contest here. Boston is going with Connelly Early on the hill to begin this game. Early has been solid in limited action for the Sox and will look to deliver them to a key victory here.
Detroit has been in a freefall. They have lost nine of their last 10 games, risking their postseason position. The Tigers are currently tied with Cleveland atop the AL Central, but Cleveland holds the tiebreaker, and Detroit holds only a slim lead over Houston for the final American League Wild Card spot. Boston has won three of their last four games and just locked in a playoff berth. They will be playing with less pressure over the final two days of the regular season.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Riley Greene (DET) | Over 1.5 Total Bases |
Masataka Yoshida (BOS) | Over 0.5 Home Runs |
Connelly Early (BOS) | Over 4.5 Strikeouts |
Score Projection: Detroit 3 – Boston 4
Win Probability: Detroit 44%, Boston 56%
Boston enters with momentum after the psychological lift of Friday’s walk-off win, while Detroit is in a tailspin and must rebound under pressure. The pitching matchup is likely to favor Boston no matter who the Tigers choose as their starter in this contest. I expect the Red Sox to get another win at home here and to set up a final day where the Tigers could miss out on the playoffs altogether.
