Jack Perkins is on the opposite side of the spectrum. He is listed at 2-8 with a 7.04 ERA, and that kind of run prevention number is tough to back against a club as complete as Tampa Bay. If he has to work deep into counts, the Rays have enough contact quality and patience to force mistakes. That places pressure on the Athletics’ bullpen, which has not been a strength and can turn a close game into a multi-run gap quickly.
