That difference matters because UL Monroe’s defense also allowed 62.0 points and 762.0 yards in its opener, a level of leakage that can turn a close spread into a clear cover if the favorite plays even close to average. The number is also helpful from a betting standpoint because the market has mostly settled around the same side of the spread, which reduces the chance that this is simply a soft opener.
