Delhi Capitals are the form side of IPL 2026, two wins from two and clicking through their middle order in style. Gujarat Titans are the opposite. Two losses from two, undone by a batting collapse in both games despite solid starts. Axar Patel's side host Shubman Gill's at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8 with very different pressures on their shoulders.
Match | Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Titans |
|---|---|
Date | April 8th, 2026 |
Format | T20 |
Venue | Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi |
Pitch Report | Batting-friendly with short boundaries. Average first-innings score has climbed to 190-215 in recent IPL editions. The pitch can hold early moisture after afternoon rain and assist seamers in the powerplay. Death-overs scoring rate at this venue has been extremely high at 12.67 this season. |
Weather | Yellow alert for rain with possible thunderstorms around 4 PM. Forecast improves by evening. Dew almost certain after 9 PM, significantly affecting the second innings. |
Toss Impact | Chasing teams have won 6 of 7 T20s at this venue in 2026. Dew aids batting in the second innings. Both captains will want to bowl first if they win the toss. |
Pick: Delhi Capitals -140
Confidence: 3 out of 5. 4 out of 5 if they win the toss.
DC have been carried largely by Sameer Rizvi, who has 160 runs in two innings including a match-winning 90 off 51 against MI. He is on a streak of three consecutive Player of the Match awards across IPL 2025 and 2026. If he keeps going, he would be the first player to win four in a row.
The top order is where the concern lies. KL Rahul has made just one run in two matches and has been dismissed in the first over both times. Nitish Rana has contributed little at No. 3. DC have won despite that because Pathum Nissanka(the one top-order bright spot), Tristan Stubbs, and David Miller have provided finishing stability.
The bowling has been reliable without Starc. Kuldeep Yadav is DC's primary wicket-taker, Axar Patel controls the middle overs, and Mukesh Kumar has made early breakthroughs. Starc is now unlikely to join the squad until around April 20th, missing at least three more matches. Lungi Ngidi continues in the attack.
GT have had a rocky start to IPL 2026. They have lost both games in the final overs despite building strong positions. Against PBKS they were 83 for 1 in the 10th over and still fell short. Against RR they posted 204 and still lost by six runs, their middle order of Phillips, Sundar, Shahrukh, and Tewatia failing to accelerate at the death. They have played well in phases of both matches so far, but will need to get over the line sooner rather than later if they hold any Final Four ambitions.
Shubman Gill missed the last game with a muscle spasm and his availability for this fixture is uncertain, which would put pressure on Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler to carry the innings once again. Sudharsan has been GT's standout this season and has an excellent record at this venue with scores of 108 not out, 65, and 62 not out in previous visits.
Rashid Khan took over as stand-in captain last time and has been GT's most reliable bowler. Prasidh Krishna leads the wicket-takers with 4, while Rabada has been expensive at over 10 runs per over.
The head-to-head sits at GT 4, DC 3 across 7 IPL meetings. GT have won 2 of 3 in Delhi, including chasing down 200 here last season. Form this year, however, tells a very different story.
DC probable XI: KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Vipraj Nigam, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar.
Impact sub: T Natarajan or Auqib Nabi. DC have kept the same XI across both wins and are unlikely to change.
The middle order has bailed them out twice but the top order cannot keep misfiring if their hot start is to translate into something more meaningful.
GT probable XI: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ashok Sharma.
Impact sub: Jason Holder or Tom Banton.
Gill's fitness is the defining selection question. If he sits out again, GT's batting balance shifts further onto Sudharsan and Buttler, and the middle order has no cover if both fail early.
Win Probability: DC 60%, GT 40%
Home advantage, a winning streak, and a bowling attack well-suited to this surface all favour DC. The one concern is the top order, where Rahul and Rana need to contribute before Rizvi and the middle order are asked to rescue the innings for a third straight time. Back DC at -140 and watch the toss closely. If GT win it and elect to bowl, this match gets considerably more interesting at the prices on offer.
